I dont see the joy of any public official resigning.

There could be relief -or such, but not joy.

I do. A bad guy having his evil ended is always good news.

Salty, I agree. There is no reason to feel joyful over such an event. There is no place for joy in a Christians life over misery brought into another person's life. There is room for sadness over opportunity squandered and lost. As you said, there can be relief, but not joy. Well said.

    Judging again, I see.

I'd like to celebrate this by watching the current guy resign. How about a new tradition ?

I tape recorded the speech by setting a microphone hooked up to a cassette recorder in front of my family's TV speaker. I still have the tape.

It was a sad day in American history. I have always said that he could have come out of the whole mess looking like an honest person. If only he had said, "Yes, some of my people unauthorized by me broke into Watergate and I will remove any person from my administration who was involved."

I have always felt that Nixon was so good in foreign affairs and so bad when it came to domestic affairs. Some years after he resigned I saw him interviewed on TV. He was brilliant when discussing foreign affairs.

Some people just can't admit when they're wrong.

He was my commander in chief and I was glad, not relieved, when he resigned. He used the power of his office to try to muzzle free speech and freedom of the press. Even though he was going to win again easily against Sen. McGovern, he decided to tap phones and use dirty tricks to further his position and power.

I'd really like to know what's wrong with being happy about this. I think it's just self-piousness on a couple poster's part. It's pretty hard to disguise.

Nixon was a bad guy, and he got caught. If that ain't good news, then I don't know what is.

Yes, Nixon did thing that he should not have done. He resigned (possibly) in part to end the Americian nightmare. He also resigned when Goldwater told him he may possibly impeached.

The sad part is that the world only saw America in Crisis - not necessarily a man.

Same thing with a pastor. He could be doing things that bring reproach on the church - so he resigns. Even after he leaves the church will have a bad name for a while. Yes, the congergtion, might be glad he is gone - but sadness lingers in the church as they realize their testomony has be compromised.

I know of now place in the NT where it says we should rejoice and be glad because someone else has a problem, is disgraced or has trouble.

    Romans 12:12-21

12 Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times. 13 Share with God's people who need help. Bring strangers in need into your homes. 14 Wish good for those who harm you; wish them well and do not curse them. 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and be sad with those who are sad. 16 Live in peace with each other. Do not be proud, but make friends with those who seem unimportant. Do not think how smart you are. 17 If someone does wrong to you, do not pay him back by doing wrong to him. Try to do what everyone thinks is right. 18 Do your best to live in peace with everyone. 19 My friends, do not try to punish others when they wrong you, but wait for God to punish them with his anger. It is written: "I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them," says the Lord. 20 But you should do this: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. Doing this will be like pouring burning coals on his head." 21 Do not let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing good.

    LOL. This is just stupid.

Nixon getting caught and forced to resign was a great day. No admonishment from any scripture hopping heretic will change my mind.

At one time I thought he was a good President, maybe even great if not for Watergate. I voted for him in the first election I ever cast a vote. Yes, at first I did not believe the charges. Then as time went on it became apparent, he was guilty. It was quite a let down. I actually voted for Carter over Ford because of the pardon.

The whole thing was a tragedy. I actually met him and got to shake his hand about one year before he resigned.
