A book I am reading made the statement that shopping vacations are now the most popular vacations by Americans. I found this an amazing, yea, an astounding statement.

How many on the BB have taken a shopping vacation?

I've never even heard of something like that! I'm not a big shopper anyway so that kind of thing wouldn't interest me much.

I can think of nothing that, for me, would be more boring than shopping. Fortunately my wife hate shopping even more than I.

From the essay it seems there are lots of Americans who spend their vacations going to the huge malls around the country and, well, shopping. Wow, did my mouth drop open when I read this.

I've never heard of this either. I couldn't afford to do both shop and vacation at the same time. Shopping in general - driving around, shopping at this store, then that store is such a chore. Doesn't sound very relaxing. And who wants to go with their wife to Belks and walk around the undergarment department whilst she holds up this undergarment and that undergarment and asking me what I think. I think I'll go sit in the truck.

I buy all of my clothes, most of my shoes and gadgets online and have done it while on stay-cation.

We just spent a week visiting my daughter and grandkids in Houlton, ME.

We stayed in Canada - prices were high enough that they visit the U.S. for cheaper goods.

On the way home we spent 3 hours in Portland, ME visiting the outlets, (mainly L.L. Bean).
We bought a backpack, 3 pair of pants, two raincoats, a belt, a cap, and other odds and ends.
I spent more there than the rest of the trips stuff combined.
I guess that made it a shopping vacation.
