If you are an Independent Fundemantal Baptist, and were to move, would you consider joining an independent fundemantal Southern Baptist church.

Does such a hybrid exist? And if so, why?

I found these on the board from eight to ten years ago or more. I predict this thread will go a similar direction.

The only real difference I can cite is the way missions are undertaken. The International and the North American missions boards are funded through monies collected in the local, autonomous SBC churches and missionaries sent out. I've seen complaints that some of these missionaries are liberally educated, but I've rarely met an SBC foreign or domestic missionary that I would describe in that way.

The IFB churches send out missions from the local church. Seems to me it would be more practical to pool funds and be able to send out a lot of missionaries, instead of using local funds to send out missionaries that may represent a duplication of effort, as I don't see any evidence the IFB churches coordinate their sendings. Perhaps someone in an IFB church can disabuse me of that, if it is, in fact, a misconception.

Otherwise, being in one or the other, and considering moving from one to the other, strikes me as a kind of wasted energy. There isn't truly that much difference, though again my perception is the IFB tend to be more legalistic at the local level, but I'm willing to be shown I could be wrong about that, too.

Didn't Jerry Falwell's church in Lynchburg, VA affiliate with the SBC following the Conservative Resurgence?

I'm familiar with one IFB church in my town which is also affiliated with the SBC, but not the local association or the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

To my knowledge they would still consider themselves Fundamentalist.

I was saved in an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church.
I was baptized in an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church.
I was educated in an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist Seminary.
I pastored an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church for 26 years.
I was involved in Independent, Fundamental, Baptist churches for 40 years.

When I retired I moved to the far south of Texas and joined an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church in cooperative fellowship with both the Texas Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. There is no difference, at all, in faith or practice.
