What American accent do you have?

According to the link I have an Inland North accent --81%.

 

I have a western Southern Cal accent??? Yea...western NJ :laugh:

 

Hehe....I a apparently with a north eastern accent, probably from Philadelphia.......I only have the vaguest idea of where Philadelphia is....as it sure ain't Philadelphia cream cheese.

There are some Americans and Canadians here at the church, my friend Madeleine has returned to here birthplace after years in Kansas.....but to our untutored ears, she just sounds like a Yankee.

I of course do not have an accent at all:tonofbricks:.:thumbs:

There is a test about what type of Roman Catholic are you? So I take the test answering how I was raised. Not supprisingly... I came out as a True Papist...a real Roman Catholic. So don't tell me I don't understand Catholics! Thankfully, I understand Christ more. And he ain't denominational!

 

I took the test like my cuzzents in Buffalo and Scranton...bothl times it comes up a Philly accent...they both speak with a long àaaaaaa as in taaaaaak (talk) which I find both irritating and ignorant.

Now if day wanted true Jersey (and BTW we don't say Joisey cause that would be ignorant), you would have to liberally sprinkle in cuss words & the 'F' word is really considered common speech here...so most of us don't bat a eyelash....its actually really cuts to the chase and you know where you stand when somebody goes off the deep end...:laugh:

 

I live in upstate New York. As a child - I had cousins who lived in the Harrisburg, PA area - I once told them they had an accent - they informed me that I have an accent - who knew ? :tongue3:

But I grew up in Cincinnati and had many southern friends.
A week or two in Virginia and I speak with a southern drawl.

I took the quiz again. And upon further reflection reconsidered one of the questions -- as a result -- I now have a Midland accent at 90%.

 

My result:

I know that people down where I like think I sound like a yankee (which means northerner here in the US), but my relatives up north apparently don't think I sound quite like a yankee.
So midland seems about right. I remember reading that your accent comes from the people you were around as a toddler, mostly, and we moved a number of times when I was a toddler. I know we did live in New Jersey at one point. (I'm originally from Charleston, though.)

I was born and lived in North Carolina, and this is where my accent was established. I moved to north Florida as a boy and lived there for many years, so I might have lost a little of my accent.

I've lived in Connecticut for over 30 years now and my accent is mostly gone, but if I speak to a relative on the phone or go back home for a visit my accent comes back quickly.

 

88% Midland...even tho I grew up in Atlanta, GA. I'm surprised that it's not 100% Southern!

You have flat A syndrome. It's a result of living downstream of the Genesee. :laugh: 30 something years ago madre and I were living in Colorado Springs. We were listening to the radio in the car when the DJ announced the next song by the group ABBA. She pronounced the name like a bleating goat AAAAAAAbba. madre says, "She's from Rochester."

Five minutes later and the DJ is talking about growing up in Rochester and getting her start in radio there. You probably drink pop too. :laugh:
