    Anyone here draw?

I'm an amateur/hobbyist--at this point anyway. I'd like to get into art school, but think I need to build up my skills for another few years first.

Here's some of my best work:

Animals are the easiest thing to draw. I've been drawing dogs the longest, so they're the easiest. Trying to cover more territory than that, though.

One problem I have is that I don't practice as much as I should. I'm trying to remedy that by giving myself some challenges.
And I tend to rush picture ideas--recently I figured out, hey if I get an idea I should try to come up with several varying sketches and go with the one I like best. Not just sketch one thing and try to improve on that sketch only.

I can do traditional art, but I tend to work more with digital art. Unless I'm just sketching for the sake of sketching, then I'll usually put that down on paper. Although since buying some Copic markers I do a little more traditional work.

I upload my finished work to this site: http://colliequest.deviantart.com/gallery/

Not my best work, but I really liked the concept behind this one.

I am SO not artistic but my daughter is and she's now an art teacher looking for a full time job. :) Here is some of her work:

A photograph that she wasn't happy with so she used colored pencils to add to it. This is now framed in my husband's office.

Not sure what she used on this - pastels or pencils. Unfortunately, it was damaged on the bus on the way home (the creases).

Oh wow, I LOVE the lighting, shading, and colors in the first one! That's the most fun part to play with in a picture. Easier to do on digital art, though.

That first one was the second piece she brought home to us from school. I'm SO not an artist so in homeschool, that is one area that we did not do well with. But that was in the first few weeks in public school - a public school that has a phenomenal art program (14 art teachers just in the high school!)!! I was floored! She actually has talent! LOL

Some of my drawings from a few years ago are pretty terrible. lol I've learned a lot since then, but I'm still no professional.

When I was in elementary school they had a few art classes, but I didn't learn much from them. Later on I took a couple in high school, and the teacher was a professional artist. Although in those I learned more about art styles. That's where I learned about impressionism, which I LOVE. Impressionism has influenced much of my art ever since.

I was in an art class my sophomore year in HS. I was excited about it until I met the artist formerly known as Mrs. Weeks. I had a better name for her, but I shalt not repeat it here. She asked the class to draw something and bring it in the next day. I drew Donald Duck. When she saw it she laughed and said "No, no, cartoons are not art and you will not be drawing any more ducks in my class." Well, I don't remember exactly what she said, but that's what she meant. Drew a coupla fruit baskets and mountain landscapes, made a mess with some charcoal, made a pirate ship out of paper mache. In the end, I enjoyed the class and never drew Donald Duck again. But I could if I wanted to...:tongue3:

lol Cartoons are art, but from what I've heard/read from professional artists they should be based off observations from real life. :) They say you learn more effectively that way and can come up with your own style rather than copying off another. (I even read that Charles Shulz started by drawing more realistic things.)

I'm still learning to draw people realistically, especially their faces. That's hard.
Here's what happened when I tried to draw Franz Schubert for my cousin:laugh::

It looks like a person all right, but nothing like Schubert.

The second pic is a speedpaint I did on GIMP that took me maybe 30 minutes at most. I was going for something fast and easy. Painting can be a nice stress-reliever. (So can playing the piano.)

I drew some of my characters as part of a drawing meme I started filling out. (Haven't finished the meme yet.)
The coloring and shading here is very rushed. When I fill out memes, I don't feel that most of them need to be a display of my best work. In fact most of them have in the past simply been rough pencil sketches. Only recently did I start coloring some of them in.

Speedpaint, which means rushed, therefore not my best work. Finished within two hours.
