If they had known Christ and His love, had a true interactive relationship with Him, they’d have been on their knees giving loving praise for His work and asking their Master for underserved forgiveness for their sins rather than saying, “Look at all WE have done.” They had just dug themselves a hole with that statement.

First you must answer my question:
Have you stopped beating your wife yet? I will give you one answer, Yes or no.

Nah, both your answers are based on presuming the quality of the works THEY do/did is what saves/saved them. It neglects that it only takes one sin to be guilty of all so ALL their works must have been through the vine (John 15:5) of being in Christ’ grace and that only comes in freely placing one’s hope and faith in that it is only He that has defeated death and a true servant would know that all the good works they did belong belonged to Him (Their Master) and been thanking Him for what He had done for them.

Rather than repeating myself, I was debating this last week against someone who was claiming a Christian never sins here.

Which began in a fellowship forum so was re-started here.

And has a sidebar thread on this very subject/passage (concerning judgment on works and false teachers/fruit inspectors) in the Baptist Only section http://www.baptistsymposium.com/for...ist-biblical-discussion/1512-fruit-inspectors.

If you believe as the person I have been debating I invite to take a look at what his beliefs are and decide if he is not espousing a works based theology that denies or as I have put it “abandons” the faith which saves, meaning that one is saved by grace alone through faith alone. Join in there too if you like. Seems to be a popular but good subject.

Would you believe this guy was accusing ME!! of being a Calvinist because I hold to that salvation is by only by grace through faith!!

Yes, I see a misunderstanding of the need of ongoing grace everywhere, often expressed by the use of this passage.

I believe the context of 1Cor 2, which is often misapplied to proof-text depravity, is properly interpreted concerning this very point (understanding the progressive revelation of not being under the law and discernment of the spirit of a man who understands the faith by which one is saved must be based on His grace) and judging a man by his works by any other means by faith alone through grace alone.

In similar fashion, the misuse of Mat 7:1 goes along the same lines. If one is judging another by their works rather than their belief in Christ' loving grace then they are digging themselves a hole by demonstrating a belief in a works based salvation and by that they will be judged.

Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, etc. every religion of the world believes you gain eternal life through one's works--every last one but Christianity.
