TND had devoted a thread to this essay in an OP a little while ago.

I don't know how Dr. Owen can present himself as a Calvinist while saying that "God gives sufficient grace to everyone so as to constitute a real opportunity to respond to the summons of the gospel."

There is no biblical(and hence Calvinistic) basis for saying what Owen did. Paul Owen needs to move over to the John Owen camp. ;-)

I think this is spot on when we consider the Calvinist posts on this forum.

This of course misses the mark by a wide margin, for we have Matthew 23:13 teaching that fallen men were willing to seek God and were actually in the process of entering heaven. We also have the second and third soils of Matthew 13 with some degree of "appetite" to receive the gospel of Christ.

This of course misses the mark, but comes closer than mainline Calvinism. The actual sequence is we are set apart in Christ through faith, and then, we are made alive together with Christ.

    Spot on

Normally, I wouldn't waste my time with anything associated with Peter Lumpkins, but I clicked on it and the very first sentence was a guy claiming his denomination has an unbroken line of apostolic succession.

Not exactly off to a rousing start.

    What Calvinist claims apostolic succession???

On the other hand, Paul Owens' nickname was "The Pope". (Sorry, I know nobody here knows what that means, but, trust me, if you lived in Philadelphia, it would be funny.)

Well, a lot of Baptists here are into successionism --just not of the Apostolic kind.

Lumpkins is so bad -yet compelling. I can't resist reading his drivel.

So give us the name of an intellectually honest Arminian for us Calvinists.

I do not know any arminians. I think there are a couple on this board. You might ask them.

In addition to being a staunch defender of Ergun Caner, a known and demonstrated liar, he's also been caught editing videos of James White, a la MSNBC, in order to discredit White.

    Not exactly a credible source.

Not only is he a liar, I think the guy's not playing with a full deck.

Some Arminians can bash Paul Washer all they want --but seriously --who can take Lumpy seriously?

Not me. Sounds like he'd be the perfect BaptistBoard poster, though.

At least here he would have no authority that he so delights in at his website. Commentators must tow his line --or out they go.

Actually, from some of the comments on his blog, it looks like they'd make him a moderator here.

Look up the definition of "Intellectually honest".

Your cheap attempt at insult to Caner demonstrates some serious ignorance on your part here.
