The dumpster fire continues as the CEO and GM join the previous Head Coach on the unemployment line.

I do feel sorry for Cleveland Browns fans. This puts them just that much farther away from being a good team.

There have been all manner of Tweets, the latest being that the new GM, Ray Farmer, wasn't present during the interviews with Mike Pettine, so I expect Pettine being fired will be the next move. He should strike preemptively and pull a George Costanza to get himself fired, but still make Cleveland pay him.

I applaud the firing of Banner and Lombardi. Its a year too late, IMO. I don't think this puts us further from being competitive. Its righting the ship. Pettine will get a chance. They wouldn't dare fire another coach after one season.

Still lingering resentment from Lombardi's first goround, I assume? Nothing wrong with that. If the Bears hired Dave Wannstedt to so much as sweep the floors, I'd be furious.

I'm not sure what makes you say such a thing. They don't exactly have the track record that suggests this would be true.

At least the Browns are finally admitting that there is no place in their organization for a Lombardi.

Besides Lombardi being useless the first time here, he was out of the league for 5 years before being hired. Banner had no personnel experience and was given free reign of the draft. Neither should have been here from the beginning. I think the league paired up Haslam with Banner. Pettine and Farmer are close from what I hear. This has been in the works for a few weeks. He was ready to take the Miami job.

Considering he worked for the NFL Network, I wouldn't say that Lombardi was out of the league.

I'll grant that you know this team better than I do, but why not just fire Lombardi and Banner before hiring Pettine? If this has been known for weeks, why wait?

Here's Peter King's piece about the Browns.

If being an NFL Network analyst is a credential to be a GM, Adam Shefter should be a GM. He was not actively scouting and pouring over NFL rosters and contracts during those 5 years.

I think the coaching search was the nail in the coffin. I believe Farmer was going to take the Miami job and something changed his mind. I bet many zeroes had something to do with it.

Please don't do this. Don't move the target.

I get that you don't like him, but come on. Did you listen to him on the NFL Network? Did you read anything that he wrote? You cannot speak and write intelligently about the NFL without doing the very things that you say he hasn't done.

It appears that not landing McDaniels was the killer for Lombardi. The exchange with Whisenhunt in the interview was the beginning of the end for Banner. I've heard is that Farmer didn't take the job at Miami because they only offered a 2 year deal.

BTW, one of the sportswriters I follow on Twitter said that Banner and Lombardi were "totally blindsided" by their dismissal. Does Haslam thinks he's playing "Survivor"? This is not how you run a good organization.

I haven't. Horrible analyst, horrible GM.

Have YOU listened to him on NFL Network? Trent Richardson "safest pick in the draft"? Josh Gordon "wasted second round pick"? Blaine Gabbert "elite...best in tbe draft"? Leaf better QB than Manning? Jamarcus Russell? Janjkowski in the first round? Tommy Vardell? Have you seen his drafts from 1992 to present?

Possibly. Banner bad no business being in charge of personnel moves to begin with. He didn't do it in Philly and he shouldn't ha e been given free reign here.

You said he was out of the league and then you changed the argument to saying he's not qualified to be a GM. The first is a matter of fact and the 2nd is a matter of opinion. I'm not arguing about whether Lombardi is or isn't a bad GM. He was GM of the Raiders when they went to the Super Bowl, but we all know that Al Davis ran the show. You can pick out all the draft analysis you want to prove Lombardi doesn't know anything, but it's not like he's the only guy who thought some of these things. Even the best miss on players.

You have Mike Lombardi. I have Dave Wannstedt. I think it's impossible for either of us to speak objectively about those guys.

Being an NFL analyst is not being "in the league". Its reporting on the league as Adam Shefter does. Just having "inside sources" and relationships with people in the league doesnt qualify. Spending five years out of the NFL is disqualification to be GM in my book and many others, particularly when there are other candidates to choose from and based on the overall body of work of the person. His was horrible...and that's an objective, factual argument.

Unless Cleveland spends both their current first-round picks to do something about their running game, they're going nowhere in 2014 no matter who is GM. Rumor has it their going to use those picks, however, to draft Johnny Manziel. They've got Brandon Weeden, and even though he wants out of Cleveland, it ain't his call. Why the heck would anyone want to make Manziel the NFL's #1 pick? That's insane. Yeah, he's exciting. So what? He's mostly reckless, and that will result in disaster for any NFL team that tries to make him a starter next fall.

Cleveland, you need a running back worse than you need a circus at quarterback. Do what you need, not what sells tickets.

Im a Sammy Watkins guy myself. Paired with Gordon, the makings of best in the league. I would be happy with Carlos Hyde with the second number 1or guard.

Sorry, not buying it. When people who are smart about football hire Lombardi to work for them, that means more to me than a Cleveland Browns fan telling me Lombardi's horrible. Of course you think he's horrible.

Yeah, how did that work out for the "smart" person that hired him in Cleveland? Unemployment line. "Smart" football people were flabbergasted when he was hired. You act like I'm the only person on the planet that was and that's due to me being a fan. Hardly. Like I said, look at his RECORD.
