Should women preach on the streets?

A debate has arisen on FB about the issue if a woman can preach on the streets based off this book (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FL1WFK6/?tag=baptis04-20). The scriptures that I know of speak about a woman's role in the local church and noting to do with her role as an evangelist (1 Tim 2). Mark 16:15 says to preach the gospel to all of creation and that certainly implies woman. Other verses do not prohibit women from being evangelists (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15).

Some will try and stretch the scripture to make it say what they want it to say but if anyone has a good argument from scripture please cite it. But all passages I know of speak of her role in the local church, and not her role as an evangelist on the streets.

I believe that she can. The admonition against her preaching is in the formal setting of the church, not outside it, but I would add if she is in a culture where such is taboo because of gender she needs to refrain.

I agree, Evangelist. There is no Scripture, as far as I know, that would forbid women from evangelizing (even in the streets). I do understand that it is biblically wrong for women to be placed in a leadership position (i.e., pastor) over men or to teach (here, placed in authority over) men. (I realize that this is a debatable issue, but it is my understanding of Scripture). To stretch the guidance in Scripture to the point of forbidding women from sharing their faith in public would be, IMHO, unbiblical and out of context.

I agree but tell that to that book author and his followers. I asked him repeatedly last night to show me a direct scripture and he kept on trying to get me to buy his book or listen to a 2 hour sermon. No direct scripture evidence and then he kept on arrogantly saying I am just posting my opinion and not the scripture and so forth. An then he insisted that his style of open air is the only way (he does a more teaching style of open air preaching) while I and orders do a more preaching style. He tried to say that preaching is the same as teaching and so forth which is false. Frustrated.....

If someone is preaching and not teaching all they are doing is beating their gums in an effort of futility.

Never try to limit how God uses any person!

A fair number of the best religious books I have read over the last 30 years have been by women. Barbara Brown Taylor is an example of one such author.

A large majority of the best sermons I have heard over the last 20 years were delivered by women, in China, in Europe and in the USA.

Women preach in the Book of Acts. The reason some people miss it is that their sermons/prophecy is not recorded.

FWIW, IMHO, I guess that it basically comes down to how a person would define the term(s) "preaching" and/or "prophesying" as opposed to merely "witnessing."

While the Bible rarely mentions women acting in such a manner (i.e., publicly proclaiming what you might call "God's Message"), it seems to me that, if this is done outside of the confines of a modern-day, publicly announced "formal" local church worship service [which I Cor. 14:34-35 forbids], I see no Biblical prohibition for her doing so.

OTOH, as Judith has indicated in her post(s), if local customs/culture run counter to her doing so, it'd probably be better if she doesn't make this a routine practice.

In our current-day "Churchianity" wherein our men seem (for the most part, anyway) rather reluctant to fulfill their God-ordained roles in most of our local church assemblies, I find it hard for women NOT to, in a sense, feel almost compelled to (as the saying goes) "step up to the plate" and attempt to try to fill local church "roles" that ought to (and should be!) fill by the men in her particular local assembly.

IOW, I don't really fault the women for attempting to fill in where there is a "vacancy"--rather, I fault the men for essentially failing to do what the Bible tells them that they OUGHT to do.

This failure on the part of us men has led to, what I call, the "feminization" of many (if not most!) of our local congregations and, thus, on a typical Sunday morning one often finds our corporate worship services peopled with mainly women and children and only a few men--most of whom are more capable of fulfilling their Biblically-ordained local church leadership roles.....if they only WOULD!

Thankfully, this isn't the case in the local church of which I'm a member, but, sad to say, this IS the case in quite a few local churches throughout our land.

(.....Sigh! :tear:.....)

Women speaking or preaching anywhere is a sin. Women should keep silent and bite their tongue. Any woman speaking with men present should be put out of the church. :rolleyes:

In the church yes. But the post was about the question of evangelism preaching on the streets on her own.

Addressed this Sunday Evening last (3/23/14) ...
Women are supposed to covet to prophesy just like men.
The ONLY restriction is: in the assembly.

Illustrated it by saying "We arent gonna let women beat the drum at the powow, either". The burden of leadership was placed on Men.

But God was clear that women are to preach the Word.

Joe 2:28
28 And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions:

Chapter and verse!
Acts 1:13-14; Acts 2:4-8
When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. ... And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?

Acts 2:17-18
‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
Even on My bondslaves, both men and women,
I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit
And they shall prophesy.

Acts 21:8-9
On the next day we left and came to Caesarea, and entering the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we stayed with him. Now this man had four virgin daughters who were prophetesses.

And for an example inside the church meetings:

1 Corinthians 11:5
But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head

So in other words women can be street preachers. Correct? If so I agree. We both know they cannot be pastors nor teach or preach to men in the church, but the streets and with unbelievers is another matter.
