Be on the lookout for an email that looks like this:

It looks like a legitimate email from E-ZPass, but it is a scam and should be disregarded. An alert NMA member in Ohio received this email and immediately told us about it. Tolling officials have also sounded the warning, telling drivers to delete email messages titled “In arrears for driving on toll road” or “Payment for driving on toll road.”

Such phishing messages are designed to get you to provide personal information which can be used to defraud you or steal your identity. If you have further questions regarding this issue, please contact your E-ZPass Customer Service Center.

Just got my scam email today. I'm in Minnesota. We don't have EZ Pass here.

I'm pretty sure we'll never get any toll roads, here.

In NY, its not just for toll roads, but at the NY State Fair, I can pay for parking with my E-Z pass.

And that opens up something else. They are toying with a parking meter pass here, in the very preliminary mode. Businesses are skeptical that this will fix anything. And implementing it will drive up the cost of parking.

You know, I question the ethics of charging people to park on roads that they've already paid for, but I guess that is another topic. It just irks me that it's perfectly fine to drive on these roads, but you want to park on them? Pay up! It's wrong.

Two hour limits make sense, though. especially in a business section. But I agree with you on the meters.

Maintenance of the NY Thruway (I-90& portions of I- 87) is paid for entirely by the tolls. No tax money is used. Which means out of State drivers help pay for using the Thruway.
