Judge Rules Knoxville Baby Can Be Baptized Against Mother's Will
Katie Elseroad, says she got a text from her soon to be ex-husband Stuart inviting her to their child's baptism. Stuart's father is the senior pastor at Grace Lutheran in Knoxville and will be baptizing the baby into the Lutheran church. Katie, who has full custody of the baby, is Baptist and doesn't want her daughter to be baptized into a different denomination.
Katie says she wanted to do more than text about the baby's denomination, she wanted to discuss it with Stuart in mediation. Her attorney filed a motion to prevent this Sunday's baptism, but Tuesday, 4th circuit Judge Gregory McMillan said he would not stop the ritual which means baby Genevieve will be baptized into the Lutheran church this weekend, against Katie's will.
Judge McMillan didn't want to comment on his decision because the divorce is still pending. The baby's father, Stuart Elseroad, also refused to comment. His attorney also declined to do an interview, but when asked why his client wouldn't hold off on the baptism since the mother wanted to wait and talk about it, he said, "Who cares what the mother wants?"
