    Spit in my face, you Jews, and pierce my side,
    Buffet, and scoff, scourge, and crucify me,
    For I have sinn'd, and sinne', and only He,
    Who could do no iniquity, hath died.
    But by my death can not be satisfied
    My sins, which pass the Jews' impiety.
    They kill'd once an inglorious man, but I
    Crucify him daily, being now glorified.

    O let me then His strange love still admire ;
    Kings pardon, but He bore our punishment ;
    And Jacob came clothed in vile harsh attire,
    But to supplant, and with gainful intent ;
    God clothed Himself in vile man's flesh, that so
    He might be weak enough to suffer woe.

    John Donne

    It is National Geographic. Political sensibilities are paramount. A Muslim playing Christ makes good sense to them.

    So? It's called "acting."

    I could just as easily complain that the role of Jesus is being played by a sinner.

    I don't see much hand-wringing when a church member plays Judas in the local church passion play -- or does the church enlist someone whom they have excluded from the congregation for disciplinary reasons?

    The bigger concern for me is that O'really is Catholic and from what I've heard from him on his show he doesn't even make a good catholic. Is the book written from the Catholic presupposition?

    Perhaps you might become a little more informed about the book from the Amazon reviews. ( I have not read it)

    I did note several times that the intent of the book is not "religious" but rather a picture and portrayal of the surrounding history.

    Maybe one day (after retirement) I will read it.

    Where did you note this? This is the first post I can see with your name on it in this thread.

    Jesus did not die for the sins of sinners, but for going against Rome....

    That would probably be correct at least partially from the viewpoint of the Romans at the time. The Roman also wanted the local population being occupied to remain "peaceful" and executing Jesus may have been thought to assist in maintaining this uneasy peace. I am pretty sure that there might have been a number of reasons from the perspective of the Romans, none of which was that he was offering himself a sacrifice for all of humanity.

    Like I said earlier, 'not even a good Catholic'. Smh. I was talking recently with a man that has been reading it. I told him not to get his understanding of Jesus from the Catholic perspective. I shared what I believe to be the true Gospel with him and he said "I've never heard it like that before, why don't everybody tell it like that? " (Jesus was the payment for sin for many, all of His people)

    I think it is sacrilegious if not blasphemous for any person to portray Jesus Christ.

    That is utter nonsense!

    Show from Scripture where Jesus Christ was killed because he went against Rome. Have you never read the attitude of Pilate regarding the crucifixion? It was the Jews who were the immediate cause of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

    Show from Scripture where Jesus Christ did not die for sin. It was sin that was the root cause of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

    I realize you never quote Scripture. If you don't have a Bible you can find numerous versions at:

    I'm pretty sure that Yeshua1 was stating the premise of the book and not his own personal belief. If you want to know where O'Reilly gets his ideas, then you will have to ask him - nobody here knows.

    Old R. you are looking at it from a Biblical point of view. O'Riley did not look at Jesus' death from a Biblical point of view. We all know why Jesus allowed Himself to be killed. But, in no way were the Romans aware of this. Nor were the Jewish leaders that called for His death. They would have stated other reasons for their killing Him.

    I misunderstood y1's post. I thought he was saying Jesus Christ went against Rome. I did not understand he was attributing that to O'Reilly's book. My apologies y1!
