I doubt any administration was free from corruption, but perhaps I'm just a bit apprehensive when it comes to politics and politicians. I know our current administration is corrupt (actually, evil probably would be appropriate if you considered the Democrat platform and agenda), and I am confident that the next will have its share of corruption as well. Sometimes it's good to be a pessimist. I am entirely confident that I'll be proven right. :smilewinkgrin:

James Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 24 felony counts and pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor. He was sentenced to five years probation, and ordered to pay a $5000 fine.[13]
Phillip D. Winn - Assistant HUD Secretary. Pleaded guilty to one count of scheming to give illegal gratuities.;[14] pardoned by President Bill Clinton, Nov., 2000[15]
Thomas Demery - Assistant HUD Secretary - pleaded guilty to steering HUD subsidies to politically connected donors. Found guilty of bribery and obstruction of justice[14]
Deborah Gore Dean - executive assistant to Secretary Pierce - indicted on thirteen counts, three counts of conspiracy, one count of accepting an illegal gratuity, four counts of perjury, and five counts of concealing articles. She was convicted on twelve. She appealed and prevailed on several counts but the convictions for conspiracy remained.[14]
Joseph A. Strauss, (R) Special Assistant to the Secretary of HUD, convicted for accepting payments to favor Puerto Rican land developers in receiving HUD funding.[16]
Silvio D. DeBartolomeis convicted of perjury and bribery.[14]
Catalina Vasquez Villalpando, the Treasurer of the United States from 1989 to 1993[17]
Secretary Pierce, the "central person" in the scandal, was not charged because he made "full and public written acceptance of responsibility."[17]
Retired Federal Judge Arlin M. Adams served as independent counsel in the first five years of the prosecution, through 1995.[14] and Larry Thompson completed the work 1995-98.[17]
Lobbying scandal[edit]
When an administration staff member leaves office, federal law governs how quickly one can begin a lobbying career.
Michael Deaver, Reagan’s Chief of Staff, was convicted of lying to both a congressional committee and to a federal grand jury about his lobbying activities after he left the government. He received three years probation and was fined $100,000 after being convicted for lying to a congressional subcommittee.[18]
Lyn Nofziger Reagan's Press Secretary was convicted on charges of illegal lobbying after leaving government service in Wedtech scandal. His conviction was later overturned.[19]
EPA scandals[edit]
A number of scandals occurred at the Environmental Protection Agency during the Reagan Administration. Over twenty high-level EPA employees were removed from office during Reagan's first three years as president.[20] Additionally, several Agency officials resigned amidst a variety of charges, ranging from being unduly influenced by industry groups to rewarding or punishing employees based on their political beliefs.[21] Sewergate, the most prominent EPA scandal during this period, involved the targeted release of Superfund grants to enhance the election prospects of local officials aligned with the Republican Party.
Rita Lavelle, an administrator at the EPA, misused Superfund monies and was convicted of perjury. She served three months in prison, was fined $10,000 and given five years probation.[22]
Anne Gorsuch Burford, the controversial head of the EPA. Burford, citing "Executive Privilege," refused to turn over Superfund records to Congress.[23] She was found in Contempt, whereupon she resigned.
Inslaw Affair[edit]
Inslaw Affair (1985-1994+); a protracted legal case that alleged that top-level officials of President Ronald Reagan's (R) Department of Justice were involved in software piracy of the Promis program from Inslaw Inc. forcing it into bankruptcy and then failed to appoint an independent counsel to investigate it.[24]
D. Lowell Jensen, Deputy Attorney General was held in Contempt of Congress.[25]
C. Madison Brewer A high ranking Justice Department official was held in Contempt of Congress.[25]
Attorney General Edwin Meese (R) refused to investigate the matter. His successor Attorney General Dick Thornburgh (R) also refused to investigate.[26] They were succeeded by Attorney General William P. Barr (R) who also refused to investigate the matter. No charges were ever filed.[27]
Savings & loan crisis[edit]
Savings and loan crisis in which 747 institutions failed and had to be rescued with $160 billion in taxpayer dollars.[28] Reagan's "elimination of loopholes" in the tax code included the elimination of the "passive loss" provisions that subsidized rental housing. Because this was removed retroactively, it bankrupted many real estate developments which used this tax break as a premise, which in turn bankrupted 747 Savings and Loans, many of whom were operating more or less as banks, thus requiring the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to cover their debts and losses with tax payer money. This with some other "deregulation" policies, ultimately led to the largest political and financial scandal in U.S. history to that date, the savings and loan crisis. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around $150 billion, about $125 billion of which was directly subsidized by the U.S. government, which further increased the large budget deficits of the early 1990s. As an indication of this scandal's size, Martin Mayer wrote at the time, "The theft from the taxpayer by the community that fattened on the growth of the savings and loan (S&L) industry in the 1980s is the worst public scandal in American history. Teapot Dome in the Harding administration and the Credit Mobilier in the times of Ulysses S. Grant have been taken as the ultimate horror stories of capitalist democracy gone to seed. Measuring by money, [or] by the misallocation of national resources... the S&L outrage makes Teapot Dome and Credit Mobilier seem minor episodes." [29]
Economist John Kenneth Galbraith called it "the largest and costliest venture in public misfeasance, malfeasance and larceny of all time."[30]
Debategate[edit]

Debategate refers to a scandal affecting the administration of Ronald Reagan; it involved the final days of the 1980 presidential election and briefing papers that were to have been used by President Jimmy Carter in preparation for the October 28, 1980, debate with Reagan had somehow been acquired by Reagan's team. This fact was not divulged to the public until late June 1983, after Laurence Barrett published Gambling With History: Reagan in the White House, an in-depth account of the Reagan administration's first two years.
James Baker swore under oath that he had received the briefing book from William Casey, Reagan's campaign manager, but Casey vehemently denied this. The matter was never resolved as both the FBI and a congressional subcommittee failed to determine how or through whom the briefing book came to the Reagan campaign.[31]

I am retired, have been for 20 years. I do a lot of online reading as well as reading books every day. My goal this year is to read 52 books by the end of December. Currently I am 8 books ahead of schedule. I love to read, love to learn and am not afraid of information. I fear some are fearful of learning new things as it might force them to give up long held, long loved ideas and beliefs. I see life as a journey of discovery and change. To put it one way, I climb a mountain seeking truth and when I read the top what do I find? More mountains to climb. It never ends.
I now live in a continuing care retirement community. While I do go to exercise classes every day I do have quite a lot of time to read, research and think. There are those on the BB who refuse to believe me, but I was a registered Republican for many years. I finally had to leave that party when it moved so far right and adopted their Southern Policy, which, to me, was and is a racist policy. I am not happy about much in the Democratic Party, but to me they are more interested in helping the poor, the ill, the elderly and children where as, to me, the GOP is interested in corporate profits and protecting the rich at the expense of the poor. You may or may not agree with me, but that is my perception.
I ran an engineering/communications company library for 26 years. My entire adult like, save 4 years, was researching information. I also was a freelance indexer, indexes in the back of books, for over 25 years and occasionally will index a book gratis for a friend or the friend of a friend. The majority of those books were medical books, some in computer programming, some in computer languages as well as several editions of the National Electric Code.
In other words, I have spent my adult life dealing in finding and organizing information. It has been fun and informative.
To me neither party has a leg to stand on morally concerning abortion and as I am not a one issue voter I do not let that issue determine my vote. And, yes I am against abortion. There are folk for whom this is the only issue in life.
Concerning this tread I remember the Reagan years and remember the scandals that surrounded his administration. The record is there for all to see. Many myths have been promoted concerning him and his years in office. Most are false, but are widely accepted as truth. I do believe in time, in the historical sense of time ... a hundred or two hundred years, that historians will judge him harshly. I was a Reagan supporter at one time, but the scandals and his policies that harmed the average American drove me away from supporting him. Did he do wrong in everything he did. No. Did he do right in everything he did? No. He was human just like all presidents and he did some good things and some bad. Overall, as you probably surmise by now, I feel he did more wrong than right.
Life and issues are not as simply as many believe.

The Democrats can console themselves that child-molester Ortega is now President of Nicaragua and that most of Latin America has collapsed into squalor and socialism with poverty rates higher than parts of Africa. So from a Democrat point of view, they prevailed in Latin America.
I appreciate your reply to my post about you. We live in some what similar life situations about which I never realized before.
I too am retired, but only since mid-2011. Prior to that I was employed by BellSouth/AT&T as an electronic technician at their Network Reliability Center just outside Nashville (Brentwood). We were responsible for monitoring the telecommunications network for 13 states in the South & southern central US.
In addition to that we had other fun things to do such as emergency call traces, rerouting 911 call centers to other ones when storms knocked out their original central office calling systems (and then putting them back to their original status when the storms were over).
After almost 20 years of this, 65-YO WPE3BQL, decided he'd had about as much fun he could take and retired.
However, after only 3 months of retired bliss, I had a stroke that laid me up for some 4 months. This also revealed other medical issues of which I wasn't aware until the hospital doctors ran additional tests. A heart murmur, diabetes, enlarged prostate, and a few others were what they found.
And then, to add insult to injury, the idiots at Social Security only had me down for Part A (Hospital) coverage. That was fine while I was in the hospital, but since I wasn't on SS Part B (Outpatient/Doctors, etc.), I had to pay all the subsequent doctor and medication bills myself. It took quite awhile to overcome this quandary, but with God's help, I managed to do so.
Thank God He's enabled me to eventually overcome some of my disabilities. I can still get around to some extent. When I was hospitalized back in 2011, I saw people who required 24/7/365 attention just to eat and move back and forth in their wheelchairs. There were people there with dementia who were screaming at the ones who were trying to help them eat or drink or take their medications, pushing them away from themselves who were only trying to help them.
I thank my 78-YO sister who willingly spent about 10 years of her life waiting on my late mother (1913-2003) who suffered from dementia. She had to endure our mother screaming at her, throwing things at her, and who knows what else she chose not to tell her siblings that she endured. I don't know if I could have stood a decade of that kind of abuse, but she did.
Yes, God has been very good to me!
He not only saved me almost 50 years ago, but He's been with me ever since then! He already knew how often I'd fail Him (every day since April, 1966, it seems). He knew that there'd be times I stray from His will for my life (more often than I care to recall). He's walked with me in good times and not-so-good times.
He's blessed me with a church filled with people who love me and time-after-time have gone way out of their way to be sure I was taken care of as if I were their own brother (Which, of course, I am!). And that's what He's done for me in this life!
While I want to live out my life here on terra firma as long as He allows me, I'm looking forward to that day when "faith becomes sight. "When that may occur, I don't know, but I'm looking forward to it.
Just think, I'll get to see all my BB friends! Can't wait for that day! And, because we'll all be given resurrection bodies, I won't have to scare the wits of y'all when you see WPE3BQL since I'll be handsome with a full head of not-gray hair, no glasses, or anything like I presently have....and neither will you!
That will be the homecoming of all homecomings! I'm guaranteed a seat at the feast of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb! No skimpy left-overs there. I don't know how many courses there'll be at it, but it's bound to be "heap good eatin', y'all!"
Thank You, Jesus, for all you've done, all You're doing right now, and all You're going to do for me in the future! I don't deserve anything from You, Jesus! Why You chose to suffer and shed Your innocent blood for me, I'll never know in this life, but Your Word says You did, and I'll rest on that assurance alone!

The fact that no Obama officials have even been investigated shows that the Obama administration is the most corrupt in history and that corruption is pervasive throughout the administration.
As for Star Wars, sarcastically named by the leftist democrats, we do have a missile defense system in this country that works. Obama stopped the installation of one in Eastern Europe that was to stop missiles from the Islamic states but could have been reprogrammed for Russia. It was this Star Wars program that brought the Soviet Union to its knees! That is one reason the leftist democrats hate Reagan so much; he brought about the downfall of the "evil empire"!
Face it, Mr. Crab you are just not smart enough to slime the Reagan presidency. You go to the leftist publications and they fail also!
