IFB from Southern Baptist?

There are no "rules". Each local church decides on its own. Some churches will not accept you if you were not baptized in a Baptist church.

 

Well, actually, the SBC was founded in May of 1845.

Most IFB churches in the south came out of the SBC in the 1940s and 1950s due to the Convention's drift into Modernism and Theological Liberalism. (The IFB churches in the north came out of the Northern Baptist Convention in the 1920s through the 1940s.)

The conservative resurgence in the SBC began in 1979 when conservatives took over national offices. The resurgence has been described as the Baptist Reformation. But the cost was quite high. Almost 2000 local churches left the Convention and formed the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, a moderate to liberal denomination that absorbed those forced out of the SBC.

Now, many SBC churches, especially in Texas where I live, are now more conservative than the IFBs who left due to "liberalism."

 

And the Northern Baptists seperated from the Southern Baptists in the 1830s.

 

But the NBC was not founded until 1907. Until then it was all part of the loosely affiliated Baptist Union.

 

I know about the 1907 founding. That's why I just used the words Northern Baptists and didn't use Convention. Like minded Northern Baptists functionally organized themselves around specific ministries:

• The Northern Baptist Home Missionary Society
• The Northern Baptist Publication Society
• The Northern Baptist Foreign Missionary Society

Like minded individuals organized themselves together. No churches were "represented".
