As a Baptist, with the doctrine that Baptist hold about the authority of the Scriptures, this thread is offered. It delves into a question that may be asked by someone in the assembly, and perhaps the educational benefit of the thread will help with a ready Scriptural answer.

According to such sources as "National Geographic" and "Live Science" humans have about 20% Neanderthal DNA.

    So, three questions.
    1) Do you consider that such DNA results are valid and serve a purpose?
    2) Would you view some of the psychological problems (autism, hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit disorder, ...) are the result of this mixture?
    3) Were are neanderthals in the Scriptures?

On another, yet somewhat related matter (chemical makeup of the humans), what is your thinking on the current study Sweden did that may show a link (early conclusion that may no hold up with further research) between the hormonal levels in a mother prebirth and autism development? An article about the study can be found HERE.

If i'm not mistaken...and you can look it up on "WikiPedia" with a it's work cited...but they say the DIFFERENCE in neanderthal and Human dna is less than .12%....I would suggest that neaderthals are not a specie of human, they probably are humans... just really really really old...as in age...as the skeletal structure of a person will change with age. For all i know they could have found bones from seth, which may have really distorted his original bone structure/stature...just some thoughts...

They say "neanderthal" brains were larger than humans....and we share .12% DNA...does that mean they are more human? lol

In my opinion, neanderthal is a misnomer.

There is (1) Human Race...And it started with Adam and Eve...

The problem with harmonizing evolutionary world views and Gen. 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth", is that the paradigms are completely different and contradictory. This is regardless of whatever gap there may between Gen. 1:1 and 1:2 which apparently allows the theistic evolutionists to toot their horns. One of the biggest obstacles is the presence of sin and death before the fall. Such a notion just does not fit the scripture which says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned." Rom. 5:12.

Human genetics is corrupted by sin to be sure. This does not mean that His children are being punished. Example: a man born blind, not because he or his parents sinned, but rather that God would be glorified--and He was. Who gets the glory? This is a major factor in our daily lives.

We spend a lot of time glorying in the flesh. It is not possible to glorify God in our flesh.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I think humans also share about the same amount of DNA with dogs and horses so I'd not say that it means that we are part horse, although I wouldn't mind that!! LOL But seriously - we also have 2 legs as do birds but that doesn't meant that we are part bird. ;)

Well, if we want to establish ourselves as 100% distinct from other life forms - including bananas [IMG], frogs, fungi, and armadillos - then DNA isn't exactly the place where we should boast from. Of course we share DNA with Neanderthals. They were humans.

They weren't knuckle-dragging, non-verbal ape-men. They were humans. Post-flood human beings. According to current literature based on relatively recent findings, they buried their dead, played instruments, used fire, and more.

They didn't look completely like men and women from today. But even among today's humanity there are such varying facial and body features that you can tell one's ethnicity from his or her skull. I've seen pictures and maybe you have too of skulls of people from around the world and it's obvious which part of the world their ancestors originated from.

Why aren't they here anymore? I don't know. Was it disease? Genetic mutations?

Acts 17:26 [NIV] says this: "From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.…"

"According to preliminary sequences, 99.7% of the base pairs of the modern human and Neanderthal genomes are identical, compared to humans sharing around 98.8% of base pairs with the chimpanzee." (Than, Ker. "Neanderthals, Humans Interbred—First Solid DNA Evidence". National Geographic Society. 6 May 2010.)

Maybe Neanderthals were human after all--perhaps some of the more ugly ones. Be careful, artist concepts can be quite misleading. Anthros and paleos have made some serious blunders in the hermeneutics of dead men's bones. Some has even been fraudulent. See the exploits of Ernst Haeckel.

Has anyone ever determined if chimps have living souls? God breathed in the man, not the monkey. Now what?

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Anyone who has dealt much with the public knows that Neanderthals are human and that they still exist. ;)

I find it curious that believers can rely upon science in so very many and important areas (medical, engineering, mathematics, ...) yet when it comes to archaeology and biology, some believers will use all kinds of excuses.

I did not intend this thread to be a discovery of evolutionary thought.

Rather, I suggested the topic for two reasons:
    1) there is neanderthal in every human.
    2) there is ongoing work on how genetic makeup indicate precursors for disease, temperament, skin texture, aging, weight, vision, reactions...

Humankind doesn't have a working "family tree" at this time other than DNA. The development of tracking is remarkably better than just a few years go. So, I expect that in the near future there will be modifications made to the basic human DNA, and perhaps even experiments with minerals such as a rock will "magically" become human and speak prophetically.

    :)

"We believers" (are you lumped into that group?) do enjoy the benefits of biology and archaeology...but in terms of evolutionary biology (particularly macro evolution) we can dismiss their theories. Biology contributes to the medical field as they study the mutations of viruses and the like to be able to treat patients with the proper medicines...

Since there has never been anything such as a "neanderthal" I will have to say there is nothing within us that is Neanderthal, DNA or anything else.

The so called Evolutionary science has a bias against God, creation, and the Bible. Its intent is not honest nor is it sincere. It simply wants to destroy faith in God. Relying on it is a compromise.

So-called for sure. It is in fact pseudo-science. A lot of young people go to college with a somewhat nominal faith perhaps; they are soon turned into skeptics, agnostics and atheists under the guise of critical thinking, which is in fact evolutionary brainwashing.

I receive no royalty on this book: "The Long War Against God," H. Morris. Henry has a wealth of information about evolution and the duping of the world. See also: Athiest Dr. Lumsden Biology Professor Converts to Christianity--on YouTube.

The following is just chasing another coney: Were Neanderthals depraved with a sin nature?
The DNA folks say there is a common female ancestor. Some would say Eve is our maternal origin. Then there is the first man: Adam who gave the human race the sin nature.

We have the first gene pool tainted by original sin and the same tainted gene pool after the Flood. We are all the progeny of Noah and his sons. The Thals from Neander have a place in here; but not before Adam.

Then there is the T-Rex with the viable bone marrow. Somebody has a chronograph out of calibration.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

You started with an invalid premise. The only discussion to be had is about that premise.

You may have mistaken the purpose.

Three questions were ask in the OP.

    1) Do you consider that such DNA results are valid and serve a purpose?

Early respondents disagreed with the percentage, but did not dispute the validity of the DNA results showing some amount.

    2) Would you view some of the psychological problems (autism, hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit disorder, ...) are the result of this mixture?

There has been a bit of discussion on that question.

    3) Were are neanderthals in the Scriptures?

There has been even more discussion on that question.

The thread turning more toward "evolutionary" in stead of focus upon the effects on modern humankind is typical for the BB. I was hoping folks would delve into a bit more of the science and less of a dispute over evolutionary history.

Assuming the validity of your premise, wouldn't the percentage of DNA we share with bananas be the reason people go bananas?

Where are bananas in the Bible?

Don't know about bananas, but Eve did bring Adam his apple. :)
