They are confused persons who want to straddle the fence as if they are baptists , but try to make believe they have sign gifts like in the time of the apostles.

I don't think I've heard the term used seriously. But that doesn't mean it isn't.

I drove by a 'Full Gospel Baptist Church' not that long ago. I also found this website. I'm thinking they look fairly organized. http://www.fullgospelbaptist.org/

I'm just waiting on the first Free-will Reformed Baptist Church to break ground.

Well, the Reformed Baptist Alliance (Northeastern U.S and Maritime Canada) eventually merged into the Wesleyan Church:

    Historical Dictionary of the Baptists

Something to ponder: all manner of schisms have initially branded themselves as Reformed Baptists before making a full break.

Dictionary of Sects, Heresies, etc. (1874)
[now known as Christian Churches/Disciples of Christ]

A Bapticostol is a slang term I believe. The importance of the bible (not necessarily interpretation) and the strong moral and evangelical drive is what most take from the Baptist part. In addition the Pentecostal is simply believing God still works in the miraculous. Ron Phillips(Tenn) would be considered a Bapticostal though the term really means Charismatic today.

I remember where I heard it now. A guest who was preaching at our church said he was this when he was talking about how excited he was getting--he liked to shout and get visibly excited. I didn't get the impression that he meant the word seriously, though.

I've heard the term used often enough. People who use it are typically doctrinally marginal at best and think that screaming, shouting, raising hands, flipping around on the floor, being slain in the spirit, barking like a dog, clucking like a chicken is something that Baptists need to incorporate. No thanks, we're not missing anything.

I'm wondering is Ron Phillips biblical sound ? I'm watching a video of him on "It's supernatural". I'm researching Ron Phillips right now and I'm getting a "tinge of a bad feeling" about him.

This is a very interesting post. I had never heard of this term before but it caught of interest when I seen it. Thanks to all the great responses I have learned something new.

They would be Baptists who would hold that the Charasmatic Movement is valid in the Body, and that there are continuing sign gifts by the Holy Spirit today...

Problem is that they claim tgo be 'baptist" pretty much in name only, and really hold to all of those Charasmatic chaos!

What about baptists that believe in the continuation of sign gifts (tongues, healing, etc)?

They are free to hold to incorrect doctrines, as that is a baptist distinctive!

And would say that my main concern is not with those holding to a moderate view on those things, but with those advocating garbage such as WoF, of the Hagins/Copeland/hinns of the group!

Thanks. I was wondering (I know John Piper holds to a continuation of those gifts, as do many other baptists). It is sad that those things (WoF, etc., not necessarily one's view on the gifts themselves) have crept into otherwise orthodox chruches.
