He seems back to normal. Now the issue is a cough that sounds like a mutilated trumpet. He's on an antibiotic (which he's had almost all of the doses of now) and a cough suppressant.

Cough began going away and came back, went back to the vet and got more antibiotics, seems to be on it's way out again.

If it isn't one thing it's something else.
Now my cat is diagnosed with a terminal illness--chronic kidney failure. He's only three. I'm going to get a second opinion, but he's already on a restricted diet. Early stages they said, he's not showing symptoms or anything, but his blood work was high in the values the kidneys are supposed to be filtering out.

Update--cat is okay, dog is not

Dog is in final stages of congestive heart failure now, his abdomen is swollen because all the fluid in his lungs spilled over into it. He's mostly comfortable for the moment, just has trouble breathing and gets tired more easily. The vet had to put an oxygen mask on him after giving him an x-ray today because it stressed him out so much.
    Don't want him to suffer.:(

Awww - poor pup. It sounds like it might be time. I remember my vet saying that it is better to put them down a minute too soon rather than a minute too late. It's so hard to make that call but it is the best and kindest thing we can do for our fur-kids when they reach the end. I'm so sorry.

Yeah...but I don't want to have him go if he seems pretty happy either. The medication the vet gave is making him more comfortable, he is breathing a little easier and his stomach is no longer distended. I know it won't work forever though. Eventually he will start fainting, have episodes where he can't breathe, and his digestive system will shut down when his heart can no longer supply the blood to it. Right now he is eating very well, though.

The vet told me he can also drown in the fluid in his lungs....scary stuff. =(

Well he died yesterday. His poor heart finally had it and I took him to the vet to have him put down.

I'm thankful that if he had to have a crisis it was when I was able to get to him right away. I just hope I didn't wait until too late. I thought so long as he was eating fine, and he was still excited and happy about food up to that point, that I shouldn't do anything yet.

I drew a picture of him:

Someone said I should print it out and frame it. Maybe I will.
