Dr. Peter S. Ruckman died this morning. He was 94 years old. He received a BA from the University of Alabama and an MA and PH.D. from Bob Jones University.

His 65 year ministry was characterized by controversy regarding his personal life, his teachings and especially his views on the King James Version of the English Bible.

Controversial as he was there is no denying his artistic talent or his intellectual brilliance.

James R. White said of Dr. Ruckman in his book, The King James Only Controversy, that to call Ruckman "outspoken is to engage in an exercise in understatement. Caustic is too mild a term; bombastic is a little more accurate.…There is no doubt that Peter S. Ruckman is brilliant, in a strange sort of way. His mental powers are plainly demonstrated in his books, though most people do not bother to read far enough to recognize this due to the constant stream of invective that is to be found on nearly every page. And yet his cocky confidence attracts many people to his viewpoint."

May he rest in the arms of the Savior, and may his family find comfort in the prayers offered for friends and family at this time of his passing.

I bet he had nothing on that guy from Pensacola FL who's name I can't remember. He had a foul mouth, and probably never said anything good about anyone.

    Prayers for the Ruckman family

Though I wish the Lord's comfort for his family, I for one will not miss him. He had a foul mouth, and viciously attacked anyone who disagreed with him: http://www.ruckmanism.org/ruckmans-vicious-ungodly-language (Be aware that there is very intemperate language in this article--that of Ruckman, not the author.)

In KJV terms he was a railer: "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat" (1 Cor. 5:11).

Here is Friberg's Anlex definition of the word:
"λοίδορος, ou, o` as one who intentionally abuses another with speech reviler, slanderer, abusive person"

Yeah, that would be Ruckman exactly.

A couple of hours after I posted that, it hit me that I was thinking of him. Not sure why I didn't recognize the name at first, but I thought he had died years ago.

I'm sorry for his family. It's never easy to lose a loved one.

It's sad to hear he has died!

Sam Gipp is almost as bad. Maybe worse, not sure, but I've listened to him for a couple of minutes. As Dr. White rightly stated, there is KJVO and there is the cultic KJVO. Ruckman and Gipp were/are of the latter imo.

Not much to be sad about here. If is a Christian, as he professed to be, then he is home with Jesus. Additionally, his vitriolic attack on Scripture is now over. Win-win.

Right, not much, but a professing believer has nonetheless died and sorrow this side of the Sun is the norm, ,and sorrow for death of others is Biblical. Perhaps the error of his cultic kjvo teachings will soon die out as well.

It is sad to hear for his family and loved ones.

I never cared much for his theology nor his method, but I pray he was received well by his Savior Jesus Christ for his faithfulness...however misguided. That Christ receives all of us, no matter our earthly dispositions, with love is our ultimate, great hope.

Don't hold your breath. W. B. Riley stated in his book "The Menace of Modernism" (New York: Christian Alliance, 1917), there were a group of men whom he describes as the "old conception," who believed the Authorized Version or King James Bible was inerrant. He states on page 11, "On this point we are inclined to think that, even unto comparatively recent years, such a theory has been entertained." He then ascribes this belief to ignorance, and says, "I think it would be accepted without fear of successful controversy that such fogies in Biblical knowledge are few, and their funerals are nigh at hand."

99 years ago a Baptist leader thought those who were KJVO were dying out and would soon be gone. Not so. It seems to be spreading. :(

Interesting and thanks for that tidbit of info.

On another KJVO note listening to Dr. James White today he mentioned the rampant racism in the cultic KJVO camp. That's saddening.

Didn't he have a school where I'm sure he would have indoctrinated the students into his KJVO beliefs, and if I am right about the school they are all out there following and teaching, the theology of Ruckman

It may be good if we can understand about his stance about other issues than the KJV issue.
I cannot recall exactly about his stance on Rapture before Tribulation.
Do you have any record about it?

    He was a Pre-Trib Hyper-Dispensationalist.

    Thanks.

I thought he was critical about the dispensationalism.

Pretty sure he has a clear understanding of where he was wrong (and right) now. Just like we all will, once we die.

Until then, may we all muddle along in ignorant bliss of just what we really don't know.

The only exception are those perfect Christians, who know everything. Wink What happens when two perfect (in their own mind) Christians meet. I can't tell you, I have never met anyone else who was perfect. Laugh

An attempt at some bad humor to start off the weekend, on the wrong foot.
