For those of you not yet on the Trump Train, I know you don't want to vote for Hillary, but all the pundits have been trying to convince you that Trump's a complete fraud. (That was between their smug assurances that he wouldn't make it out of Iowa.)

It's odd. When Trump launched his campaign by talking about Mexican rapists and the wall, his critics hysterically denounced him, rushing to TV to say he did NOT represent the Republican Party! Only after it became resoundingly clear that large majorities of Americans agreed with Trump did his critics try a new tack: He doesn't believe it!

That's what my friend Andy McCarthy at the now-defunct National Review wrote recently. I had to spend the weekend figuring out how to attack a friend without saying, "This is the most retarded argument I've ever read."

Methinks the reports of National Review's demise are a little overstated. But they sure hate them some Trump. It seems like those afflicted with Obama-Derangement-Syndrome are now catching a serious case of Trump-Derangement-Syndrome.

Au contraire to Andy.I've said from well in the beginning that he does represent the GOP because he hasn't exhibited any different behavior than SEVERAL of the GOPers on here and off. When you drink from the same well, you're likely to catch something.

...it might actually save the party. I've been turned off by their catering to Christian Zionists and being owned and played like a banjo string by AIPAC with the subsequent endless military interventions in the ME for quite some time now, along with some other things.

    And I ain't alone.

Our foolish interventionism at unimaginable expense to the taxpayer with borrowed money has created the ideology of ISIS. Period.

Get ready to address Donald Trump as 'Mr. Pesident'.

Buckley disliked Trump and saw him for what he is. I don't think that Trump wants or needs conservative votes because he hopes to attract white Democrats.

    Will they never learn!!??

    Remember the movie "The Blob"?

The Donald is like the Blob, the more people he "eats" the bigger he gets.

Foolishly (IMO) everyone who opposes him who has the resource (including president Obama) of the social media has doubled and tripled their attack upon him making him ALL THE MORE POPULAR.

Why? Because many or most of those who attack Donald disgust them WORSE than the Donald and voting for him is a form of REVENGE!

I agree with kyreneck : "Get ready to address Donald Trump as 'Mr. President'".

And again I will ask--In what alternate reality did Donald Trump have "large majorities of Americans" agree with him? He only got 40% of the GOP voters.

It is still early, but Super-wealthy Trump has 100% of the Democrats against him and 60% of the Republicans for someone else. The GOP is fractured at this point.

I don't think many are trying to convince others that Trump is a fraud, I think they are pointing out - using Trump's own words, actions and stated policy positions - that Trump is someone who is profoundly unqualified to serve as a President who will abide by the Constitution, and the laws and principles that have guided this Republic since its founding.

Actually and technically speaking Baptist Believer, Donald Trump is fully qualified to be considered by the citizenry for the office of the presidency.

Not that I am an avid follower, I am not.

    However, according to the Constitution:

    http://www.presidentsusa.net/qualifications.html

Now, in the sphere of personal and/or public opinion concerning his qualifications, that is another matter.

There may be other laws or regulations controlling the qualifications of the presidency (e.g. felons disallowed) but I don't think so.

    Do you know of any?

I was talking about his moral and intellectual* competencies, not his age or being native-born.

*For those who are about to jump on my reference to his intellectual competence, I am referring to his apparent lack of understanding of our government, our history, our institutions, and the reasons for the policies in which we engage in as a country. That doesn't mean he needs to agree with all of them - I don't agree with a number of policies - but he needs to understand how and why the policies were established to avoid unintended consequences when he seeks to change things.

At this point I am neither for nor against the Super-wealthy Trump, but I don't want to be told that he is not a liar and is not a demagogue and did not used to be a playboy.

Here is part of what Buckley said about Trump:

Sharpshooters tracking down demagogy were out there waiting last summer, eyes trained, when Bill Bradley arrived in Iowa. Would he do it? Would he advocate an end to the subsidy of ethanol? Ethanol is the program, excogitated during the Carter Administration, which sought to augment the staying power of a gallon of gasoline by an infusion of ethanol. What happened is that the price of oil went down, and the potential economic value of an ethanol additive turned out to be less than the cost of producing ethanol, and that was many moons ago. . . . What about the aspirant who has a private vision to offer to the public and has the means, personal or contrived, to finance a campaign? In some cases, the vision isn’t merely a program to be adopted. It is a program that includes the visionary’s serving as President. Look for the narcissist. The most obvious target in today’s lineup is, of course, Donald Trump. When he looks at a glass, he is mesmerized by its reflection. If Donald Trump were shaped a little differently, he would compete for Miss America. But whatever the depths of self-enchantment, the demagogue has to say something. So what does Trump say? That he is a successful businessman and that that is what America needs in the Oval Office. There is some plausibility in this, though not much. The greatest deeds of American Presidents — midwifing the new republic; freeing the slaves; harnessing the energies and vision needed to win the Cold War — had little to do with a bottom line.

Let me put on my tinfoil hat for a moment...

Maybe National Review is continuing to slam Trump because they have more visitors and more ad income when they have a Democrat in the Oval Office to slam on.

OK I understand and I repeat I am not a Trump fan.

It is true however that the Constitution (fortunately or unfortunately - depending on your point of view) makes the only true requirements for the office of the presidency regardless of morality, intellect, religion, etc...

It seems that some talking heads feel as if its up to them alone to determine morality and/or intellect and be the self appointed "elite" and scheme up a situation to thwart the voice of the people who are considered too dumb to make their collective choice.

It is up to we the people to determine the collective choice or rejection for no other reason than our desire no matter what it is. e.g. Romney lost because of his religion (or so we are told).

Once the people have spoken and chosen even the immoral and/or the not so bright - then that individual is the president.

Folks who are unhappy can leave as some have threatened and become another "man without a country".

Just so everyone will know FWIW, I still am not sure what to do.
It seems that Trump indeed is a wobbly choice for POTUS with flip-flops abounding.

But the alternativ(es) Berny and Billary give me an upset stomach (if I think about it for too long).

Our Primary here in WA is a week away.

I hope the Donald can clarify his positions and STICK to them.

I think we'll have to elect Donald to office to see what he'll do in office.

Seriously a good idea, then he can be impeached (for what I don't know - fraud, deception...).

Seriously, we may have to learn from after-the-fact (or as someone else said "unintended consequences") Trump blunders.

ITL, I just realized your parody "we'll have to pass the bill so that you can find out what's in the bill'.
