There are some on this board who insist on strife. Don't misunderstand, I’m not posting "in kind", but instead hoping to encourage others to think twice before they author a post or treat another in such a manner as to sin. I have posted in anger in the past, and have done my part to make right my wrong. But there are many instances lately where someone has made false accusations, claimed agendas, responded unkindly or in strife, towards another brother. Emotions sometimes run high, and can get out of hand. But as brethren we cannot let it stay that way.

In other words, “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called.” Why?
“Because there is one body and one Spirit, one Lord and one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Anything else is an insult to Christ and a trampling on His blood shed on the cross.

“But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

    Ephesians 4:20-32

This is not directed at the person you assume it to be directed (if my assumption is correct) even though he initiated the thoughts. Look in the politics section. And you're forgiven the assumption Laugh . The BB is important to me...but not that important.

This is something from which we can never, if we are children of God, depart:

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 15:12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

1 John 2:4-6 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

1 John 2:9-11 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

1 Peter 2:9-12 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

1 Corinthians 13:13 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1 John 3:7-10 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

Ephesians 4:25-32 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

Partly for my enjoyment. I enjoy discussing scripture. Also because I can learn first hand of other Baptist denominations. And I can learn arguments for and against a belief I may hold. Sadly, more so because there are few people that will discuss scripture except on Sunday, and then for about an hour.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:9-10

Often I feel like responding to people in kind. I am and have been trying to respond instead with kindness. Part of me knows that some will take my comments as snide, but that is likely because such passages as Romans 12:9-10 are foreign to their experience and faith. So I'm continuing this thread, for now, and for me. It is difficult, but getting easier, for me to reply to insults with a passage or a kind word. And what better place to get some practice in than the BB ;).

I am curious about the rationale behind a "Disagree" Rating for a post that is essentially all quoted Scripture.

Careful, Jon. One should only make substantive posts, lest they be considered a "Smart Elic". ;)

At one time I would have been as well. I'm not curious any more. Sometimes the answer is just not worth knowing. Laugh

I visited the church where my wife and I wed 27 years ago. It's small but thriving (it's small because it's in a small town...we are thinking about going more and considering moving our membership). Most of the sermon ended up being prayer before the Lord's Supper. But the pastor mentioned that when we lack that brother love it is essentially a "slap" to the Cross as Jesus gave His life for the Church. That stayed on my mind and I started the thread. I guess there was a reason (I did not anticipate complaint on this one).

A picture is worth a thousand words, and the use of the ratings in this thread are painting a pretty clear picture.

Yep. I was a bit curious about the backstory, but now I can easily guess at least one of the main Characters.

I guess that "Disagree" is now the new "Dumb Box" Rating.
