Government is a necessary evil hence the need to have limited government and moral politicians.

What path are you looking for in a candidate? What do you want governing officials to do? What do you believe God's purpose is for them?

I'm looking for a candidate who will follow the Constitution. Though how I envision that isn't how the religious right tends to envision it. I don't believe religion and political ideologies have much to do with each other. I'm neither conservative nor liberal. I'm libertarian, which could be described as sort of a mix of the two. (A prolife libertarian, but those who claim the ideology can go either way.)

A few specific points include keeping gay marriage legal (not because I support it but because I believe that to be Constitutional), reducing our military budget (it's the largest in the world, and we should be using it for defense and not to interfere in the affairs of other countries), protecting the unborn (because they have a Constitutional right to life), supporting the free market (which we do not have), and allowing people of other faiths to practice so long as they are not infringing on the rights of others in doing so (the crackdown should be on those acting violently and not on the religion as a whole).

In general, I believe the government's role is minimal. It should exist to protect the people, be it from other countries or from criminals and those within who seek to harm. But it's reach should be severely limited in order to prevent abuse of power.

My mind is unlikely to change anytime soon. If my views do change, it will be from careful thought and research. Which takes time and won't happen simply because someone decides to guilt trip me for not thinking like they do.

Wow, so many inaccuracies! I am also puzzled where all these mischaracterizations come from.

The cited USA Today article does not say Reagan's mother was Presbyterian, but a Protestant.

    Indeed:

    Tribute to Nancy Reagan
    http://fccnh.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NL030916.pdf

"the President’s mother, Nelle Reagan, an active member of the Hollywood-Beverly Christian Church. Although Mrs. [Nancy] Reagan was responsible for the President’s affiliation with the Presbyterian Church, she did have her own ties with the church in which the President was raised, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They were married in the Little Brown Church (one of our sister churches)....Mrs. [Nancy] Reagan also continued to honor her mother-in-law’s involvement in Hollywood-Beverly until earlier this month. Every month since the President’s passing, Hollywood-Beverly has received a check from Mrs. Reagan in honor of Nelle’s love of and participation in the church’s ministry"

Nancy Reagan, I Love You, Ronnie

"The Little Brown Church was small and out of the way and seemed like a good place to be married quietly. Ronnie had found it; he belonged to the Hollywood Christian Church, but that was huge and would have attracted a lot of attention."

Ronald Reagan, "My Faith" Modern Screen (1950)

"And our lives are in our hands. I'm not a fatalist. I don't go along with those who say, 'When your number's up, it's up, and there's nothing you can do about it.' I think God gave us a certain control over our own destiny. He showed us by rules and by countless examples how to live happily and well.
I believe in prayer. I was about twelve when I was baptized. Now I go to a Protestant church, the Hollywood Beverly Christian Church, though not as regularly as I should."
