"Once I was introduced, I said to the Pope that I had been asked by several committees of the General Synod that I celebrate the Reformation and I have refused"
"But," Gillett continued to the Pope, "I will propose that we commemorate the Reformation and that we also apologize to our Catholic brothers and sisters for how we have treated them and use this time as a season of growing and serving together, and that this be a time of reconciliation."
"The Pope was obviously moved." "And then he asked me to pray for him," said Gillett. "I hugged him and went to pull away, but he really had me. That's when I started to lose it," said Gillett of the emotional exchange.

Oh my, the horror of all horrors - two followers of Jesus Christ embracing. What is this world coming to?

What I'm wondering - did the pastor bow or kneel to the pope ?

Even if he did a respectful gesture (although kneeling would be a bit much), the Pope is a head of state (Vatican City), so it's also a bit like meeting a president or prime minister.

So what do you consider a respectful gesture.

If I were to meet President Trump, I would shake his hand - and as a veteran, I would salute him.

I would NOT consider bowing or kneeling.

Much less kissing his ring!

It's contextual. Handshakes would be the most appropriate in America. In Japan, bowing would be.

I'm not familiar enough with papal and Vatican customs to know what is considered proper protocol, but I wouldn't consider a small bow to be excessive.

My concern is how thePastor was overwealmed, as I would have many emotions, but th would not be one of them!

Pope Francis has approached his role uniquely. He's been very open toward protestants.

I have a just few degrees of separation from the Pope. I have a friend (and former boss) who is an evangelical Anglican bishop. His archbishop (whom I have met and with whom I also shared lunch once) flew with his colleagues to Rome and met with Pope Francis. I'm not saying the Catholic church is perfect (no religious organization is), but the world is likely better off for having Pope Francis in office as opposed to some possible alternatives.

One follows Christ, the other is head of an Apostate church!

Here we go with the name calling from a member of a minor Christian sect that rejects the very church which Jesus Christ Himself brought forward.

Christ was NOT the founder of the Roman Catholic church

We preach/teach the same one Paul did, but your Church teaches the heresy of salvation merited by goodworks!

Not so. The Universal Church teaches forgiveness in Jesus Christ the Savior of us all. The Universal Church teaches that we should have love for everyone. The Universal Church teaches that having faith is required, as is living holy and pleasing lives to God.

The Universal Church leaves nothing out, everything is included. Show me a biblical passage where it says we are saved simply by faith and I will show you one where it says good works are also required; where baptism is also required; where reception of the Holy Eucharist is also required. You focus on one thing, the Universal Church looks at everything.

Try: Ephesians 2:8-10, Douay Confraternity if you like. This is really plain perspective on what salvation is and what works are and the relation between the two. A major problem arises when we take the doctrines of men and try to make them agree with the doctrines of Holy Writ.

Whenever two people disagree, both cannot be right. Both could be wrong. What is the standard? This is why Sola Scripture is such a pivotal doctrine. Scripture is the only rule of faith and practice.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Now there's your false gospel - Sola Scriptura. Jesus did not call for a book to be written and then all men allowed to make their own interpretation of it. He started the Universal Church, a teaching church, where men with the help of the Holy Spirit decided what was what.

This was the reality from the beginning of the Universal Church. It was the Bishops (men) of the Universal Church who called the various synods and councils to decide things. The Holy Bible by itself calls nothing into session, nor does it proclaim any of the Christian doctrines that came about - such a thing simply does not happen.

Where are we supposed to take our problems between our fellow believers? Why to the Church of course, the one made up of men who figure things out. It never says for the people in dispute to open up the Scriptures and figure it out themselves, we are told to take things to the Church my brother, to those put in authority by Jesus Christ himself.

That's the truth and the historical reality, until of course some mere men came along promoting this Sola Scriptura idea, thus leading countless souls confused and astray.
