Whatever we could find. A Frenchman in the woods is a dangerous thing! It's amazing though how we have become such a wasteful society. My ancestors living on the farm did not waste any part of the animal.

When I first went down south to Louisiana they were talking about "boudin". I ordered some up and it wasn't the same thing at all!

OH of course, Louisiana French (Cajun) although a French culture has many differences with Canadian or Maine French (Arcadian) cultures.

I lived for 3 years in the New Orleans area when a teenager and had Cajun friends.
Mm, the food: Filet Gumbo, Jambalaya, Fish Bisque, Beans and Rice......

"Give the boy some filet gumbo, give the boy a plate. Give the boy some filet gumbo, hurry up before it's too late"! Yep, I spent a few years down that way myself - I loved that Cajun cooking!

16 Therefore, don’t let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.

"Don't let anyone judge you in regard to food" means meats that were once prohibited as called unclean, NOT BLOOD. Why are you people so stubborn and slow to understanding? You misquote scriptures to mean that you can now drink blood or eat meats still wits its blood in them. This study isn't about restricting you from eating things like pork, that were once prohibited by the Law, its about not eating blood, which has been a sin even before the Law was given to Moses. Once you've properly drained a meat, like pork, from its blood, then you may eat it and enjoy it. UNDERSTAND. OPEN YOUR EYES. WAKE UP.

Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

Lev 17 and Lev 11 - forbid eating meat with blood in it - JUST as Acts 15 STILL does.

Lev 11 also says not to eat rats or diseased meat no matter the type of animal from which you get the diseased meat.

Turns out - the Gospel is not about trying to get people to eat more rats, eat more diseased meat, eat more blood.

The following is an excerpt from The MacArthur New Testament Commentary on Colossians 2.

How Do Believers Withstand Spiritual Intimidation?

Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. (Colossians 2:16–17)

Legalism is the religion of human achievement. It argues that spirituality is based on Christ plus human works. It makes conformity to manmade rules the measure of spirituality. Believers, however, are complete in Christ, who has provided complete salvation, forgiveness, and victory. Therefore, Paul tells the Colossians, let no one act as your judge. Do not sacrifice your freedom in Christ for a set of manmade rules. Inasmuch as “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Rom. 10:4), to become entangled again in a legalistic system is pointless and harmful. Paul reminded the Galatians, who were also beguiled by legalism, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery” (Gal. 5:1).

Legalism is useless because it cannot restrain the flesh. It is also dangerously deceptive, because inwardly rebellious and disobedient Christians, or even nonChristians, can conform to a set of external performance standards or rituals.

That Christians not be intimidated by legalism was Paul’s constant concern. He commanded Titus not to pay attention to “Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth,” because “to the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled” (Titus 1:14–15). Romans 14–15 and 1 Corinthians 8–10 also discuss Christian liberty and the only legitimate reason for restraining it: to protect a weaker Christian brother or sister.

The false teachers were telling the Colossians that it was not enough to have Christ; they also needed to keep the Jewish ceremonial law. The false teachers’ prohibitions about food and drink were probably based on the Old Testament dietary laws (cf. Lev. 11). Those laws were given to mark Israel as God’s distinct people and to discourage them from intermingling with the surrounding nations.

Because the Colossians were under the New Covenant, the dietary laws of the Old Covenant were no longer in force. Jesus made that clear (cf. Mark 7:14–19).

Paul reminded the Romans that “the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17). That the dietary laws are no longer in force was illustrated by Peter’s vision (Acts 10:9–16) and formally ratified by the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15:28–29).

A festival was one of the annual Jewish celebrations, such as Passover, Pentecost, the Feast of Tabernacles, or the Feast of Lights (cf. Lev. 23). Sacrifices were also offered on the new moon, or first day of the month (Num. 28:11–14).

Contrary to the claims of some today, Christians are not required to worship on the Sabbath day. It, like the other Old Covenant holy days Paul mentions, is not binding under the New Covenant. There is convincing evidence for that in Scripture.

I'm quite awake. I don't respond well to posts that are not in keeping within Christian speech. I let the Bible speak for itself.

Christians are not under any intimidation to follow the law. We are saved by grace, chosen before the foundation of the world and eternally saved by the God who reveals that He is the author and finisher of our faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2New King James Version (NKJV)

    The Race of Faith

12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Somehow, to you, saved by grace means you are permitted to become "lawless" and break the law?

Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. (Romans 3:31 [NIV])

Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:19 [NIV])

As if grace has become a leniency to become lawless, when in fact, it is quite the contrary, a leniency for you not to be punished to death because of the sins that you have already committed that deserve death, that you may then become righteous according to God. Grace is a chance to begin doing good and avoiding evil, and have all your past sins forgiven, not for you to CONTINUE IN YOUR SINS AS A LAWLESS PERSON. And we know that SIN IS DEFINED BY THE LAW. You are in fact a lawless person, because you think the entire law has been discarded. Anyone who thinks this is under a curse,

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. (Proverbs 28:9 [KJV])

You are either under the law or led of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

    Law brings death.
    The Spirit makes alive.

You are either a Bible student - or a follower of man-made tradition.

    Rom 8
4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

Bible students - choose the Bible.

1 John 3:4 "Sin IS transgression of the Law"

"this IS the Love of God that we KEEP His Commandments" John 5:2-3

1 John 2:1 "These things I write that you sin NOT"

Hebrews 8:6-10 "THIS IS the NEW Covenant I will make .. I will write My LAW on their heart and mind"

Romans 6 is an entire chapter explaining the point that those released from the condemnation of the Law are not to be slaves to law-breaking sinning.

Romans 8:4-10 says that wicked "do not submit to the Law of God - neither indeed CAN they" as contrasted to the saints who walk in obedience via the power of the Holy Spirit.

Rom 3:31 "do we then make VOID the Law of God by our faith? God forbid! In fact we ESTABLISH the LAW"

And since "Sin IS transgression of the LAW" 1 John 3:4 -- even in the NT

well then -- what is Romans 6 saying about "SIN" vs the "Gospel"?

    Romans 6
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? ...

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! 16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
