I guarantee you I can turn between passages faster digitally than you can on paper.

Haven't carried a paper copy in many years. I usually take the phone (YouVersion or Olive). I prefer my Nook — when I can find it. I prefer having several versions to refer to.

I use my Samsung Galaxy note, Tablet, not the phone. I operate the sound so I keep a bible in the unit, just in case I forget my bible. I use Olive Tree and I have several versions and I have a couple of French ones, as my wife always uses French, and she some times whispers "But my bible says so and so." I can switch quickly between versions to check.
There was an annoying period when it ran a program randomly which said "I can't find an internet connection" even though the sound was muted. It got over that after an update.

But I can't fit a tablet in my pocket, which was the reason I occasionally just go with my phone. (An old S5, btw.)

Personally, I don’t see that I need a device to bridge the gap between smartphone and laptop. But that's just me.

I just purchased a galaxy note 8 and am looking forward to using it as my bible. Until now I've used a tablet and a "real" bible, but I preferred the tablet. The reason is that I have several versions and commentaries on the tablet.

The note 8 is larger than my previous phone (as long as my wife's iPhone+ but not as wide). We had just changed providers and decided to get new phones as well instead of going through the hassle of getting our old ones unlocked. I wrestled with going with the iPhone or forking over the extra for the note 8. After experimenting with the device and the s pen, I am pleased with my decision, and as a bonus I get to keep the android OS to which I've grown accustomed.

That said, it did take some time for me to move from paper to digits. At first I carried both, but after about a year I found myself relying on the electronic version. It just took awhile for me to be able to be more efficient with note taking (and retrieving those notes) with a tablet or phone.

You still dont have as much screen estate as a Tablet. I recently purchased or upgraded to the iPad Mini 4 (from the 2) and use it as my replacement for paper books.

PS- Your wife upgrading to the iPhone X next month?

We agree. I bring my Samsung Gal. S8+ and find it perfectly suited for reading the Bible. It has 14 versions of the Bible, along with commentaries, concordances, topical guides, maps, historical information (like the Works of Josephus) and reading plans. There are confessions and religions books like 'The City of God," C.S. Lewes' books and "Pilgrim's progress." If the pastor recommends a book by a theologian I can instantly find it and save it with the option to buy it. I like to use Laridian as a source for Bible software because they have a policy that if you have ever purchased something in any format (for instance Windows) they give you free updates on any other platform (example Android). I have Windows-based books I bout 15 years ago that I have recently updated to the latest Android version for free.

I also have a tablet, but with the s pen apps the screen is more than sufficient (I've retired my tablet from daily use).

I doubt my wife will upgrade next month. We typically purchase new phones only as necessary. Phone marketing relies on discontentment - there is always a next best thing. I try to purchase devices that will last.

The last time I brought my phone, I accidentally made it start speaking. So outloud it was reading the verse the Preacher was reading. :Barefoot

You guys are giving me phone envy.

My Droid Turbo is almost three years old. Still works great but the massive battery no longer lasts two days; nowadays it can't quite get through a full day. I looked at both the S8+ and the Note 8. I decided if I were to go Samsung I'd like the S8 Active if it ever gets to Verizon. Otherwise it's Pixel 2 XL, I think.

Oh I can WAY more easily turn between "pages" and passages on my phone over the Bible and like I said, most young people "get" the digital devices so it is no worries. I would rather carry my phone which has many more applications on it than just a paper Bible because I can't fit the paper Bible in my purse. The compact reference Bible is cute but totally impractical for me since I can't read the small print. I could read easier on my iPhone 5C than in a compact Bible.

5C? Thats an ancient iPhone. Have you considered upgrading to the iPhone SE? The SE can at least run IOS 11. My parents both prefer the smaller size of the SE.

I had a Gal S6 but it completely died on me out of warranty. There was some kind of SW and/or HW issue between the motherboard and the charging portal. I've been skipping releases and have had the Gal 2/4/6 previously. I was going to wait a while longer to get the S8 but was forced to do something. Actually used S6's had held their value (for those that worked) and I didn't want to pay that much for the same thing I had before. I've never been an Apple fan and thought the S8/S8+ was the best phone out there. I changed my AT&T plan and was able to put my brother on as simply an additional device sharing data whereas before I had to pay for him as a separate account because he lives in a different state. (I got the employee discount and now the retiree discount so I paid for his phone.) I'm going with a combined 3 Gb data plan for both phones and my Gal S Tab which I bought refurbished for $200. I'm really careful about only using a lot of data when I'm on WiFi. Under the new plan I pay about $50 less a month included the per month charge for the new phone.

I didn't know whether to go for the S8 or S8+ because I thought the 8+ might be a little big. But I know a guy still at AT&T Mobility who had gotten both to test before they were released and he talked me into the 8+. I'm glad he did. It's a great phone and has two features that are really worthwhile, high definition voice (which was actually my idea but I didn't get anything for it) and WiFi calling. I live near a cell tower but also near some high voltage power lines which I believe effect my cellular quality. Calling WiFi bypasses the cellular ingress network and gives me much better quality.

As you can tell I'm still very much interested in cellular phones/tablets and networking!

Ancient? It is 4 years old and it is JUST out of the upgradability of the iPhone OS now. But it works fine so why the need to upgrade? It is costly to upgrade, you know.

Not if your carrier pays for the upgrade. Who do you use? With Sprint they give you a credit to upgrade. When I went from the 6 to the 6S I paid $5 more a month and I get 32GB instead of 16GB!

I buy my phones I had a Galaxy S3, which did all I need. I kept mislaying it around the house, so I bought a bright red case, so that I could find it easier. I lost it about 2 weeks later. My bank gives free phone insurance and you pay an excess of £25 for repairs and £50 for a lost phone, They then said they would replace it with another S3 which would probably be worth about £50 so I bought a Galaxy S6 from Amazon. I am happy with that. I don't want the latest model, I can't work out half of what any of them do.

And how much are you paying with Sprint? I have unlimited talk/text and data with throttling at 4g a month for $20 with Cricket. I don't get any credits to upgrade but I'm also not paying inflated charges for my plan. You were probably paying installments on the 6 and then when you upgraded, you were paying the same amount plus $5. You're still paying for your phone but over time with possible interest. I pay cash. I have the cash to buy even the new iPhone X but I'll wait a bit. No need to buy yet.

$87-$90 a month and I believe that includes the insurance I have, so encase my phone is lost or damaged I get a new one.
