Historically, it hasn't. But, then for the first 17 years of the VA's existence, the DoD didn't exist.

I don't know if I can explain why, but I believe it should remain separate. The reason...funding.

I might could be persuaded otherwise.

I'd like to see the VA Secretary be a former member of the JCS, in the tradition of Omar Bradley. Not just a general officer but an actual member. It would mean there'd be the sense of taking care of his/her former troops.

Agree. Separate from DoD but the Secretary must be a former Chief of Staff.

Currently, there must be a dozen or so to choose from.

Separate from the DOD since the VA has nothing to do with national security.

The difficulty is finding a bureaucratic system which is not riddled with waste, fraud and abuse. This is a symptom of the total depravity of man.

General Shinseki tried to fix it (VA) from 2009-2014. He resigned after saying: "That breach of integrity is irresponsible, it is indefensible and unacceptable to me."

Methinks we need a department of: "how to give proper hand salutes for the C of C's who have never been in a military uniform"

We have an accountability problem--it permeates our whole society. The real accountability is to God. Difficult--in an amoral society.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

May I slightly hijack my own thread?

Should the Director of a local VA hospital also be a Retired General/Admiral ?
