JUST as long as they do not go against the scriptures and add any as either Pastors or Elders!

What is the role of deacon? In a church we belonged to (PCUSA - but a very conservative one), there were women deacons but their job was to take care of the physical needs of people. They met once a month to cook food to fill the freezer that would be used to bring food to the sick, elderly and those in crisis, they sewed clothing and crocheted baby blankets for orphanages and they would schedule some of the men who would go to people's houses to do any repair and construction work that was needed for those who couldn't afford it. I thought that was great. But they weren't responsible to help lead the church with the pastors nor were they teaching.

The biblical example shows that deacons served the congregation and the poor, but they also engaged in preaching and evangelism. Stephen (a deacon) was the first martyr and preached the longest sermon recorded in the New Testament.

I understand that and that is why our deacons are not women but the deacons in our old church was not responsible for any preaching.

Doesn't Annsni's two church experiences trump all that though?

They are already going against scripture.

In the Book of Acts, women prophesied (preached). You can't get around that if you accept scripture as authoritative.

Experience does not trump scripture. My church has had women serving as deacons for a few decades.

I only know what was in the article. I have no concerns with women serving God, the congregation, and the community as deacons. We have an example of it in scripture.

1 Timothy 3:12 Excludes women from being in the position of deacon.

This is an apostate church, which there are a lot of, I just wish they would lose the Baptist title.

It confuses people by making them think that this church uses the Bible as their final authority.

The leadership at Shiloh is corrupt.

they were not preaching as Pastors would today, but akin to modern day charismatic, "speaking forth as Spirit give them utterance"
They were exercising gift of prophesy, not of preaching/proclaiming!

    What scripture supports that position?

Phoebe was "a deacon of the church." (see Romans 16:1-2)

The "husband of one wife" is a description of a person's character, like 1 Timothy 3:2-5. The presence of a noted female deacon who worked closely with Paul - noted in Romans 16:1-2 - demonstrates that gender is not an issue in regard to deacons.

Okay. I have to admit, that is the most ironic post I have ever read on the BB. I literally laughed out loud!

This is another case where the bible would be a lot clearer if the translators would have translated the words instead of transliterating the words.

In this case the word διακονον is a singular, feminine noun meaning "servant." She was a servant of the church. Make of that what you will.
