My wife got this in her email from a friend and I felt you all would enjoy it... I did!... Brother Glen:D

    I cross ocean,
    poor and broke,
    Take bus,
    see employment folk.
    Nice man
    treat me good in there,
    Say I need
    go see Welfare.
    Welfare say,
    "You come no more,
    We send cash
    right to your door."
    Welfare checks,
    they make you wealthy,
    Medicaid
    it keep you healthy!
    By and by,
    Got plenty money,
    Thanks to you,
    TAXPAYER dummy.
    Write to friends
    in motherland,
    Tell them
    'come, fast as you can'
    They come in turbans
    and Ford trucks,
    I buy big house
    with welfare bucks.
    They come here,
    we live together,
    More welfare checks,
    it gets better!
    Fourteen families,
    they moving in,
    But neighbor's patience
    wearing thin.
    Finally, white guy
    moves away,
    I buy his house,
    and then I say,
    "Find more aliens
    for house to rent."
    In my yard
    I put a tent.
    Send for family
    they just trash,
    But they, too,
    draw welfare cash!
    Everything is
    very good,
    Soon we own
    whole neighborhood.
    We have hobby
    it called breeding,
    Welfare pay
    for baby feeding.
    Kids need dentist?
    Wife need pills?
    We get free!
    We got no bills!
    TAXPAYER crazy!
    He pay all year,
    To keep welfare
    running here.
    We think Canada/America
    darn good place!
    Too darn good
    for white man race.
    If they no like us,
    they can scram,
    Got lots of room
    in Pakistan.

You're ALL illegal immigrants over there - except the native Americans - and you behave as if you own the world.

Sorry to bring a serious note into the "Jokes & Humor (Clean)" section

Using England - Britain as the example - we have Royalty & the Nobility we are supposed to look up to. It's unacceptable to show disrespect for our "betters."

It all goes back to 1066 when William of Normandy (France) invaded, defeated the English King Harold, & subjugated the country so that the whole country was ruled by French vassals who set up their power base in castles & manor houses. The native English lost all their lands & freedom, working for the land lords, & scratching an existence.

Various revolts & civil wars did not change the situation. The RCC was also a big landowner.

Queen Elizabeth traces her ancestry back to William in a supposedly unbroken line. Now our newly married Prince Harry has become the Duke of Sussex, which is a large county on the south coast. The heir to the throne, Prince Charles "owns" Wales, Cornwall & other vast tracts of land.

At the Reformation in the 16th century, RCC lands were seized by the crown & distributed among the lords of the land, enlarging their estates. That made life worse for the population when the only regular occupation was farming - seasonal work on the land owned by the lords.

A serious legal problem Queen Elizabeth had to deal with was "sturdy beggars;" men fit to work but unable to find employment. The army & navy were alternatives.

The civil war of the 1640s was fought between rival landowners loyal to the crown, or opposed to it. And, of course, many of the common people fought & hoped for some benefit from the victory. The "Levellers" were various groups who looked for possession of enough land to live on, independently of the lords.

This song by Leon Rosselson celebrates the "Diggers" who in 1649 took over tracts of land for subsistence farming. St. George's Hill is now a golf course.

World Turned Upside Down - Leon Rosselson

Covenanters were in Scotland, & Scotland was brought totally under subjection to the English King in 1745, after the Jacobite rebellion.

As it's a poetry thread, the Scottish metrical Psalms are still in use exclusively & unaccompanied in some churches in Scotland.

The Jacobite rebellion occasioned some powerful songs -

    Speed bonny boat;
    Will ye no' come back again;
still sung as art songs today, for entertainment.
O come, all ye faithful - Adeste fideles - the English translation reads like a Christmas carol rather than a call to arms. It's not about Jesus, born king of angels, but about Charles, born king of the English - regem Angelorum.

    No.
He was the last of the Stuart line, the first being James 1 who succeeded Elizabeth 1 in 1603. He was the Scottish king James 6. There followed Charles 1, who tried to overrule parliament & occasioned the Civil War - he was beheaded - & his son Charles 2 was recalled at the restoration in 1660. He had a number of children by mistresses but was succeeded by his brother James 2 who tried to restore the RCC.
James 2 fled the country in 1688 & his protestant daughter Mary & her Dutch husband William 3 became joint monarchs.
James fled to France, raised & army & was defeated at the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland.
His son James (the Old Pretender) led a rebellion to try to regain the English crown in 1715.
the OP's son Charles, (the Young Pretender, Bonny Prince Charlie) tried again in 1745 with a Scottish army. They got as far south as Derby, retreated & were massacred at Culloden.
    The German Hapsburgs weren't involved.
William 3 & Mary were succeeded by Mary's sister Anne, who had lots of children, none of whom survived infancy.
When Anne died in 1714 "we" needed to find a Protestant in line of succession - there were 50 RCs before they found George, king of Hanover. Hence the 1715 RC attempted takeover.

As it's the poetry thread, it's all made clear in the satirical song, "The Vicar of Bray."

In the song "The Vicar of Bray", the eponymous vicar was the clergyman of St Michael's Church, Bray. The most familiar version of the lyrics recount his adaptability (some would say amorality) over half a century, from the reigns of Charles II to George I. Over this period, he embraced whichever form of liturgy, Protestant or Catholic, was favoured by the monarch of the day in order to retain his position as vicar of Bray.

The following lyric is a version of the song recorded by Richard Dyer-Bennet in 1955:

In good King Charles' golden time, when loyalty no harm meant,
A zealous high churchman was I, and so I gained preferment.
To teach my flock, I never missed: Kings are by God appointed
And damned are those who dare resist or touch the Lord's anointed!

    (Chorus)
And this be law, that I'll maintain until my dying day, sir
That whatsoever king may reign, Still I'll be the Vicar of Bray, sir.

When royal James possessed the crown, and popery came in fashion,
The penal laws I hooted down, and read the Declaration.
The Church of Rome, I found, did fit full well my constitution
And I had been a Jesuit, but for the Revolution.

When William was our King declared, to ease the nation's grievance,
With this new wind about I steered, and swore to him allegiance.
Old principles I did revoke; Set conscience at a distance,
Passive obedience was a joke, a jest was non-resistance.

When Royal Anne became our queen, the Church of England's glory,
Another face of things was seen, and I became a Tory.
    Occasional conformists base; I blamed their moderation;
And thought the Church in danger was from such prevarication.

When George in pudding time came o'er, and moderate men looked big, sir
My principles I changed once more, and I became a Whig, sir.
And thus preferment I procured From our new Faith's Defender,
And almost every day abjured the Pope and the Pretender.

The illustrious House of Hanover and Protestant succession
To these I do allegiance swear – while they can hold possession.
For in my faith and loyalty I never more will falter,
And George my lawful king shall be – until the times do alter.

George of Hanover... and so that kraut becomes the King of England and mows down Scots because a didna like the RC’s interfering with the Highlands. So he had his army bayonet every man who had the affront to wear a kilt... then he made it illegal to assemble as a clan or wear the dress or speak Gallic. I don’t have all the information about my wife’s Scots Ancestors but the Sinclair clan did participate and the Lowlander Glaswegian and Lenarkshire (spelled that wrong) really don’t like the English... even today. They were shot by(what they call the bloody bastards) when they were Covenanters and starved in the Highlands. As for me, I was raised to beware of the Anglo-Saxon as a degenerate sort... the aunties called them the “Sais” and true Britons were composed of the Celtic races, the Irish, Scots, Welsh, Cornish who are really one race. The English on the other hand are mutts. Angles, Jutes, Saxons that were slaves to England by their masters the Northmen ( Normans). Even today Philip of Batten burg, a Elizabeth Her Germanic Majesty have created a race of mixed breeds. Congratulations you are more like the Americans than you think... even marrying an American ... herself of mixed breeding. Welcome to the family :Wink
