I was wondering if anyone has seen this movie? It's a "Band of Brothers" style of movie from the German side called "Generation War". It tells the story of several friends from before the war and what happens to them during the war. It's a pretty interesting movie and well worth your time if you wanted to see a movie depicting the war from the other side. I also recommend Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima" which depicts that particular battle from the Japanese side.

I have watched the original German version two or three times now. I thought it was pretty realistic for the most part. However it seems that the friends here at times acted more like modern characters than their 40's counterparts. Still a very interesting series.

My interest is personal, having been born in Germany. My mother and uncle both fought in the war on the German side. My uncle never came back from Stalingrad. My mother would rarely speak of the war.

My step sons wife, her grandmother, was in her teen years (15-18) during the war. Being a military history buff, it was interesting to talk with her and learn how everything went for her. She had several relatives who served in the German forces, but since she was living in a rural area was for the most part unaffected by the bombings of Germany. She met and married an American (of German lineage) during the occupation.
