Anyone think Marshall ought to reimburse Southern for the destruction of Seminary property? Or maybe she already has: online library search.

 

I have a copy of Bobbed Hair, Bossy Wives and Women Preachers that would be gladly donated to the seminary library, but there are so many non-biblical people being trained there (meaning they are being taught against the biblical dictate of 1 Timothy 2:11-12) that it would probably suffer the same fate . The liberal theologian is no different than a liberal politician. They do not like the views of those they disagree with. Preachers and theologians should consider that we are to live by the precepts and teaching of the scripture and not develop our theology from the culture, because it is always changing. The word of God never changes.

 

Here is another thought. If Molly Marshall took John R. Rice's book from the library two things would have happened. One, she would have had to pay a fine for an overdue book or pay for the lost book. She did not indicate that happened. The other option! She had to steal the book (take it without checking it out) in order to throw it in the river. If you read her blog at "Baptist News Global" she seemed to have felt and still feels persecuted by the SBC preachers (and other preachers/theologians) who evidently did not agree with her view of women in the ministry. If she took the book without checking it out that is a mark that would cause problems with her character and it may or may not have changed. Hopefully she was repentant but in reading her blog, there is little if any indication she was really repentant. Her statements are a diatribe against anyone who disagrees with her. She even puts down anyone who does not agree with her view of women in ministry. I happen to believe women have a place in ministry it simply is not being a pastor/teacher. The qualifications for a bishop, elder, pastor in 1 Timothy and Titus are all in the masculine gender in describing those qualifications. Maybe someone should go back to the Bible and what God has said. After all, He is the one responsible for its existence.

 

I had not considered that option, so that may be a possibility. In reading the piece, my take was that she stole the book.

 

Yes, he has no right to burn someone else's property.

 

Reminded of this thread after finding an older HB biography of John Rice in a rural bookstore in northern Maine.

I immediately thought of John of Japan.
I don’t remember the author, except it was a woman and was extensive and quite favorable towards him.

Yes, that would have been by "Miss V.," as we called her: John R. Rice, The Captain of Our Team. It's a good read with a lot of good info, but obviously a hagiography, since she was his secretary starting in 1934, I believe, making it 36 years.

The other main bio was Man Sent from God, by his longtime friend Bob Sumner, and that was also a hagiography. I hope someone will write a genuine impartial bio someday.

 

I picked up a copy at a sale of books by the Calvary University Book Store (then Calvary Bible College and Theological Seminary Bookstore).

I was fresh out of a church which was very strict. KJVO, No "male" apparel for women, no dancing, no cards, no theaters, no TV, no alcoholic beverages, etc, etc...

So the book pleased me, in fact even now I would much rather see long hair on women.
