Let me see if I understand your question.
Is the good news about how God saved humans or is the good news how man can save himself?

    Is that your question?

The English word "gospel" in the New Testament is the Greek word εὐαγγέλιον (euangellion) and it literally means "good news." That begs the question, "Good news about what?" In Romans 1, Paul describes the gospel as the "gospel of God" and "the gospel of His Son" (Romans 1:1, 9). In other passages in the New Testament, it is referred to as "the gospel of the kingdom" (Matthew 4:23). When we think of the gospel we often think of its redemptive message (Romans 1:16). Addressing @percho 's questions in the OP, is the gospel about how God saved man? If by that you mean what Christ did to atone for sin and the gospel's power to save all who call upon the name of the Lord, then the answer is "yes". But is the gospel also about how man can be saved? The answer to that is also "yes". "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).

Here is a kind of interesting thought, relative to the gospel of the kingdom relative to being saved. The death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth is the power of God unto salvation in the kingdom of God. See also Heb 5:7-9

The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; Acts 10:36,37

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mark 1:14,15

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1 Cor 15:50

    Ummmm, somethings got to give.

Jesus answered and said to him, 'Verily, verily, I say to thee, If any one may not be born from above, he is not able to see the reign of God;' Jesus answered, 'Verily, verily, I say to thee, If any one may not be born of water, and the Spirit, he is not able to enter into the reign of God; that which hath been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which hath been born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:3,5,6

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Cor 15:1-4

    The same thing.

Romans 1:16, ". . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . ."

    Amen.
I would also add, that it is not the power of God unto salvation to every one that does not believe:

" For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." ( 1 Corinthians 1:18 ).

My sheep my voice do hear, and I know them, and they follow me, John 10:27

My sheep - going down the road in unbelief
My voice do hear - I call them
I know them - I give them the Spirit of Truth
They follow me - they become of belief, believers

They know I have saved them.

And the messenger said to them, 'Fear not, for lo, I bring you good news of great joy, that shall be to all the people - because there was born to you to-day a Saviour -- who is Christ the Lord -- in the city of David,
