I was watching a report on the impeachment hearings and realized a parallel. There are many Calvinists who argue exactly like the Democrat arguments against the Republicans.

What I mean is that often the issue with Calvinism is not doctrine (people disagree on doctrine) but a probably small but loud part of the Calvinist camp. These are those who acts as if there are no Christian scholars on the opposing side, who thinks any Christian who rejects Calvinism does so out of ignorance, who appears to come from arrogance demeaning anyone who disagrees, who makes assumptions about what other people thinks, who does not listen to anything the other side offers, who dogmatically imposes an agenda on other people, who tosses volumes and volumes of data out that does not really support their position, who believes anyone who does not accept their view are engaged in a cover up (of the "true" gospel). This was very close who the complaint against Democrats (particularly after Don Lemon’s comments this past weekend).

And it is true. For some reason arrogance and demeaning behavior is often associated with Calvinism more than any other religious sect. But to be fair, they are more of a solid target (non-Calvinists include many theologies).

What I would say before attributing all Calvinists the characteristics of the “bottom dwelling” Calvinists is to consider that your experience may not (probably is not) a picture of the whole. Listen to people like John Piper and Tim Keller. Read Spurgeon. Consider that they are very Calvinistic but at the same time they are not “hate mongers”.

For the Calvinists who are tempted towards arrogance and “puffery” consider non-Calvinistic scholars and their scholarship. Consider people like AW Tozer, D.L. Moody, NT Wright, Gordon Fee, Scott McKnight, Grant Osborne, Robert Shank, David A. DeSilva, John Oswalt, C.S. Lewis, Robert Picirilli, James D. G. Dunn, Richard Rice, Adrian Rogers, William MacDonald, James D. Strauss, John Wesley, Jerry Vines, Adam Clarke, James Strauss, Norman Geisler and Alister McGrath…just to name a few. You will not agree with any of them but you may learn from all of them, depending on your maturity.

My point is do not allow yourself (regardless of your position) to be indoctrinated to a theology to the point you are unable to interact outside of your camp.

I get enough political tripe without seeing it on this forum, which has its own brand of tripe, thank you.

I think he does not like that I posted it at all.

But watching the impeachment I could not help but draw the parallel. I was curious if anyone saw the same thing.

I love that song but nobody sings it in church services anymore.

I blame the Arminians and the Calvies for their Classical Theism Omnipresence ruining a good song.
