If my memory serves, it came about in the 1980s when John Macarthur and Chuck Swindoll both wrote a book on grace. I believe they got into a bit of a fued regarding salvation by grace and what that meant. Macarthur's view was coined as "Lordship Salvation." I have no idea what Swindoll's view was coined.

Lordship of Jesus was understood all through Church history. It was not an issue until the last few years. It is not really an issue when the gospel is preached and understood correctly.

If someone has serious, continued, conscious, and unrepentant sin, does that mean they can still go to heaven?

I know this is an extreme example, but did Adolf Hitler go to heaven because he professed faith in Christ at some point in his life?

If Ravi Zacharias died unrepentantly, should we expect to see him in heaven anyway?

LSers oppose 'easy believeism' yet promote justification by 'faith alone' (which is unscriptural).

    Go figure.

IMO, faith alone = easy believeism

What about Solomon as an extreme BIBLE EXAMPLE of serious, continued, and unrepentant sin? Your thoughts?

Are you saying that none of the Protestant Reformers taught it?

That might be true, but can you please give me examples of where the Protestant Reformers taught this?

Can you please provide examples of where John Calvin himself taught Lordship salvation?

Is it possible to have a middleground between Lordship salvation and easy-believism?

That might be true. Can you please provide examples of where Martin Luther, John Calvin and other Reformers taught Lordship salvation?

If justification by faith alone is unscriptural, then what do the scriptures teach?

Charles Ryrie appears to have taught a middle position:

Since I care about what the Reformers taught, I would appreciate some examples of where they taught Lordship salvation.

...the scriptures teach justification NOT by faith alone:

24 Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith. Ja 2

This is off-topic, however, your question begs the idea that salvation is merit-based rather than by grace alone.

If that were true, doesn't that support Lordship salvation?

Also, does James 2:24 contradict Ephesians 2:8-9?

Does Lordship salvation teach that salvation is merit-based? Did any of the Protestant Reformers teach what would today be called Lordship salvation?
