I see my service as a E-1 draftee was paid $78.00 a month, in 1965, and as an E-5 in 1967 I got a whooping $200 per month. I had more money in the bank when drafted then when discharged, as I had to supplement my income in order to eat not in the mess hall. But worst of all, I had a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sports Coupe with twice pipes and a four barrel carb when drafted, and it was totaled while I was thousands of miles away. Best car I ever owned...of course I was young.

Just to clarify for non vets - there was no difference in basic pay for draftees vs enlistees

Just to clarify for non-vets, the pay scale rose when the draft was ended.

It was on 1 Jan 72 - the Pay scale was raised 100% for E-1, and for each rank - the % was less. -- an E-7 received about a 20% pay raise.
