    Well I don't think we're talking about something like the Okefenokee. There apparently are swamps on the island and DIs have taken their recruits into them.

    I know. I really don't know the difference between a swamp and a marsh. I was just joking with @tyndale1946 .

    For real, 'Billy', another 'buddy' of mine that joined told of one time during a training exercise fearing of drowning in a swamp on Parris Island. I believe him.

    A thought just occurred. they probably keep the gators away from the island, right?

    you can’t really keep gators away from anything. They have their own mind and it’s always on a food source.


    That said they don’t usually go around a lot of human activities. Unless someone is intentionally feeds them. Then their bellies override their fear.
