    Just wondering what everybody's thoughts were on this. We know that God knows our thoughts before we even think them. But many of the biblical instructions on prayer tell us to have a private conversation with god away from people so that people won't hear us and also to confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord, and there are many biblical references to people crying out to God for forgiveness or Mercy or other needs and that would indicate some volume coming out of their face. Even Jesus Christ prayed audibly to his father.

    Does anybody have a Biblical example of a silent prayer being answered by God ? Does God prefer us to use our voice when we talk to him ?

    I'm sure you're aware of it, but it seems to me we're instructed to pray in secret along with other things, and, we're promised that God will reward that attitude:

    3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
    4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
    5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
    6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
    17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
    18 that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee. Mt 6

    Hannah's was, hallelujah!

    1 Samuel 1:10-20

    "give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life"

    "her lips moved, but her voice was not heard"

    I think one of the keys is the heart-felt motive of those praying to God. Public prayer is certainly advocated in scripture, but if the ones praying are doing so in part to demonstrate their righteousness to others, then the prayer is useless as the prayer of the Pharisee, Luke 18:10-14
