I want to say no, but truth is, probably. This depends on the generation. We sometimes seem to forget that many of our beloved hymns were at one time contemporary (and often controversial).

About the most ridiculous article I've read in a while. Hymns are full of depth. Contemporary music, with some exceptions, not so much. Hymns are rich musically, contemporary, eh, not so much. It doesn't have to say Jesus/God to know that is what we are talking about. Many contemporary songs could easily be sung to a girlfriend, it's sickening.

Give me hymns by such men as Augustus Toplady, John Newton, William Gadsby, Isaac Watts, et al, and preachers and devotional writers such as Richard Hawker, J. C. Philpot, William Mason, et al. I love the old hymns and the old doctrinally solid Biblical preaching about God as absolutely sovereign in all things, Christ as The LORD our RIGHTEOUSNESS, and the Holy Spirit as regenerating from being dead in sins those whom God elected before the world began - all without the aid of any of the filthy rags of false human righteousness.
