Without the general redemption no lost persons have any way to know Christ died for them.

Without the general redemption being true there is no Scripture by which the lost can believe Christ died for them.

How do you define general redemption?

    Good question.
The key to the OPs statement is the words "redemption" and "believe."

    Redemption means:
the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.

I have no clue what general redemption is as opposed to a specific redemption.

Does the OP actually mean a general call to believe? Scripture tells us to go to the world and share the gospel that humans are sinners and without belief in Jesus death, burial and resurrection for their sins, they are damned to hell.

Those who believe this message are people who God has specifically opened their hearts and made alive in Christ.

So, unless God chooses to make a person alive with Christ, the message of the gospel will be foolishness and the person will not and cannot believe.

This is why I am such a stickler for proper definitions. Words mean things. "General Redemption" can be misconstrued to advocate Universalism. Now, if he meant a general call, that gives us something to discuss. Is there a general call to salvation? Is there such a thing as a free offer of the gospel? These are different things than general redemption which still has yet to be defined.
