The false teaching that man has the ability to believe, even though he is spiritually dead in trespasses and sins.

Yes, upon regeneration the soul responds in faith and repentance with the heart of flesh that God replaced his stony heart with.

That is your belief. As I argued the word of God does not teach that. The fact that faith exists after regeneration cannot be used to prove regeneration precedes in order to have faith.

One very simple reason. Because it’s GOOD NEWS to them.

and who said that you are? you quoted from John Gill, who was a Calvinist, in case you did not know this; and I said that Calvin himself, who Gill followed, disagreed with him on John 3:16

This is complete nonsense from Gill, and the others who follow this line of thinking.

let me make it real simple.

In the passage of John 3:16-18, if we take the word WORLD to mean only the ELECT, then we have the absurdity, that some of the "elect world", will believe and be saved, and the others lost.

It is very clear for those who want to know what the Bible says, instead of their theology, that God so loves the entire human race. out of this human race, those who believe will be saved, and those who do not believe will be lost. Now show that this is not the case?

All that proves is God solely causes the new birth. That the new birth is not caused by means of man's on going belief. It cannot prove the belief did not precede God giving the new birth. Understand?
Yes, which were born is past tense. But the said belief is active and on going. This doesn't prove belief is the result. Gill did not refute Romans 10:13-15 where belief precedes shall be saved future tense.

@37818 Since you believe that you are the trigger mechanism in salvation, the cause of regeneration - why did you believe and not someone else? Were you smarter? Were you more briliant? Were you luckier? Why do you think you believed your form of gospel as opposed to someone else who doesn't believe at all? Why are you different than the others?

If I must be classified, I am a sovereign grace Baptist. I am one of those people that opposes legalism even though some legalists might call me an antinomian; and I oppose antinomianism even though some antinomians might call me a legalist.

    1) I do not have to agree with everything anyone ever wrote or said in order to quote them. That would be an absurd requirement.

    2) This is what Gill said about what happens AFTER regenereration:

"The effects of regeneration...The grace of repentance then appears; the stony, hard, obdurate, and impenitent heart being taken away, and an heart of flesh, susceptible of divine impressions, being given; on which follow, a sense of sin, sorrow for it after a godly sort, and repentance unto life and unto salvation, which is not to be repented of: faith in Christ, which is not of a man's self, but the gift of God, and the operation of the Spirit of God, is now given and brought into exercise; which being an effect, is an evidence of regeneration; for "whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ", and especially that believes in Christ, as his Saviour and Redeemer, "is born of God", 1 John v. 1 and such have hope of eternal life by Christ; while unregenerate men are without hope, without a true, solid, and well grounded hope; but in regeneration, they are begotten to a "lively hope", and have it; a good hope, through grace, founded upon the person, blood, and righteousness of Christ, which is of use to them both in life and death. Regenerated persons have their "hearts circumcised",..." (emphasis mine)
