The U.S. District Court of Massachusetts entered the consent final order against the City of Boston, issuing permanent relief so the city can never censor religious viewpoints as it did when it prohibited the Christian flag on its public forum flagpole.

In Shurtleff v. City of Boston, Liberty Counsel represents Boston resident Hal Shurtleff and his Christian civic organization, Camp Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 on May 2, 2022, that the City of Boston violated the Constitution by censoring a private flag in a public forum open to “all applicants” merely because the application referred to it as a “Christian flag.” The High Court stated that it is not government speech, and because the government admitted it censored the flag because it was referred to as a Christian flag on the application, the censorship was viewpoint discrimination, and there is no Establishment Clause defense.

There is no such thing as a "Christian" flag in the Scriptures. It really should stop being called such by anyone who claims to be a Christian. It reminds me of the icons in Catholicism.

"The flag has a white field, with a red Latin cross inside a blue canton. The shade of red on the cross symbolizes the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary. The blue represents the waters of baptism as well as the faithfulness of Jesus. The white represents Jesus' purity. The dimensions of the flag and canton have no official specifications." (From Wikipedia)

The use of symbols to declare affiliation seems far afield from idolatry.

I wear a gold ring on my left hand, declaring Holy Matrimony. Lots of church buildings have a cross, declaring a religious affiliation.

"A banner, such as was set up on high mountains, especially in case of invasion, when it showed the people where to assemble, Isaiah 5:26, 11:12, 18:3 and 62:10; Jeremiah 4:6, 4:21; Psalms 60:4" (From Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon)

While I don’t promote a “Christian” flag, this decision is about much more than a flag. It is about anything “Christian” being allowed in the public forum.

The article closes with this observation:

Liberty Counsel’s Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Today’s court order seals the 9-0 Supreme Court victory for private speech in a public forum. This victory is so much more significant than a flag. Boston openly discriminated against viewpoints it disfavored when it opened the flagpoles to all applicants and then excluded Christian viewpoints. Government cannot censor religious viewpoints under the guise of government speech.”

It reminds me of the idolatry that was encouraged in Vacation Bible School when I was led to pledge allegiance to the "Christian flag." It also reminds me of the January 6th attack on the Capitol where police officers were beaten, the Constitutional operation of our government was interrupted, and so-called Christians helped to perpetuate an unsuccessful overthrow of our Constitutional system.

We have never had a need for a Christian flag, and it is now become offensive to those outside the faith because of the way the symbol has been used in service of "Christian" nationalism.

Pay no attention to the advocates of cancel culture. Nothing people do in their efforts to declare Christ is to be praised, but instead, they proclaim one disparagement after another, and employ the guilt by association fallacy.

Should I claim the quoted post reminds me to the NAZI false flag operation used to justify invasion? Nope because that would be just as wrong as the quoted post.

Some say Mr. Trump should not run because his name has been blackened by the liberal liars.
Some say we should remove "Baptist" from our local church names, because the word carries the baggage of liberal liars.

We are under heavy attack and we need to put on the full armor of God.

I cannot make heads or tails out of Marooncat79's post #7, but I think his statement is "This is a cultural thing, even pagan's wear bands"

Yes and pagans celebrate Christmas, and think Easter is not a celebration of Christ's bodily resurrection. That is just one of the ways the dark side undermines our witness.

You did not address that banners (i.e. flags) are used in scripture, and therefore the use of a "Christian flag" or other symbol to show affiliation with Christ is not unbiblical.

Please show me in the NT where we are to use banners

Not to mention that it is a hinderance to The evangelism especially to Muslims

where in the BIBLE does it tell us what the so called Christian Flag looks like?

in fact, it is a distraction to the worship of God

Those who have gone before us would have never allowed it in their congregations and to their credit

it is a new invention to the Christian Church.

Did I say banners were found in the NT? Nope. Did I show were they were affirmed in the OT? Yes.

Since Christ is our banner, what is wrong with our flag pole looking like a cross? Or our flag having a red cross on it?

Here is one version of the pledge of allegiance to the Christian flag found on the internet: "I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Savior for whose kingdom it stands; one brotherhood uniting all mankind in service and love."

Do Christians proclaim allegiance to Christ's kingdom?

    Are Christians siblings of Christ?

Are we pledged to lovingly serve all mankind?

    Psalms 20:5 (NKJV)
We will rejoice in your salvation,
We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
