Both COVID-19 and Vaccines Can Lead to Higher Risk of Heart Condition, Study Says

A new study suggests that both COVID-19 infection and vaccination against the virus can increase the risk of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition that causes the heart to beat abnormally fast.

In a healthy person, the nervous system automatically tightens blood vessels and causes a moderate increase in heart rate to make sure a sufficient amount of blood reaches the brain. In most patients with POTS, however, this autonomic nervous system doesn’t properly function, forcing the heart to beat extra fast to compensate for the drop in blood supply to the brain. This usually results in dizziness, fainting, chest pain, and shortness of breath, especially when changing from a sitting position to a standing position.

For the study, published this week in Nature Cardiovascular Research, a team of scientists examined the post-vaccination POTS diagnoses of 284,592 adults from 2020 to 2022. A great majority of these patients received Pfizer-BioNTech (62 percent), Moderna (31 percent), and Johnson & Johnson (6.9 percent) vaccines.

“From this analysis, we found that the odds of developing POTS are higher 90 days after vaccine exposure than the 90 days prior to exposure,” Dr. Alan Kwan, the study’s first author and cardiovascular specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said in a press release. “We also found that the relative odds of POTS were higher than would be explained by increases in visits to physicians after vaccination or infection.”

So from what this study shows, to me anyway, is that for those that already have a heart problem then having the shots may actually be better for them in the long run. Getting sick with covid is not a good situation for anyone but can prove fatal to those with a compromised ability to fight it.

    From the article:

“In other words, they did not answer the big question, which is whether getting vaccinated would reduce your risk of getting POTS once you contracted COVID-19,” Setty said.

“Because the vaccine does not prevent infections, and we don’t know if vaccines mitigate the risk of getting POTS after COVID-19, we are left with no idea whether the risk outweighs the benefit.”

But if the vaccine does help prevent covid then getting the shot is a better idea and it does actually out weigh the risk.
Fro the article "A new study suggests that both COVID-19 infection and vaccination against the virus can increase the risk of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS),"

If the vaccine can reduce the possibility of contracting covid and the risk of POTS is the same either way then it is a better idea for those with a heart problem to get the shot. From what my Dr. told me it is the same as getting the yearly flu shot. It may not prevent you form getting the flu/covid but the severity of it will be lessened.

I was thinking the same thing. You risk POTS either way, and that condition is not life threatening (per the article it is a common condition affecting up to 3 million in the US).

Who are dying from clots and heart problems? What are these who are dying suddenly dying of? What is there status relative to the below?

Seems to me when a person dies suddenly the first question asked would be their vaccinated, booster status.

the vaccinated and boosted who have not had covid
the vaccinated and boosted who still got covid
    the unvaccinated who got covid
the unvaccinated who have not had covid

    ????

You seem to be holding on to the myth that covid shots do not work. But the reality is that if you get covid and have had the shots then it is not as severe. As one with a heart problem I would rather have the odds on my side thank-you.

That is fine for you to say but I received the flu shot for the same reason that I received the covid shots. If it gives me a better chance of dealing with those then I have nothing to loose. But since it is a free country, get the shots or not your choice.

Come on Rev that is a rather dumb comment. Since the majority of people received the shots then logically they would make up the majority of those that die. Or are you suggesting that everyone that got the shot only dies from getting the shot?

Duh....right now more people have had the vaccine than not.

Did you know there have been 28 people who were attacked by sharks in FL? Guess how many shark attacks there were in TN?

I am beyond the debate on these vaxes, as I no longer trust the majority of the medical community due to their ignoring medicine and catering to the jacka$$e$ of the dem party.
I got the 1st & 2nd vax way back yonder reluctantly, simply because my Dr & my wife(RN) encouraged me to! No boosters since, & after the boosters started to multiply like rabbits, I decided that they were a hoax.
I contracted the bug a few months ago along with my wife even though it had been long enough for the vax to be working. She had a real bad cough for ~5 days, & she pretty much was over it. The only thing it did to me was sapped my strength for a couple of months and virtually killed any endurance I had. I would walk up the stairs to my bedroom & (just 7 steps) & I was totally exhausted. Am just now - past couple of weeks - getting back to normal.
All this to say - I have no idea whether the vaxes kept us from serious problems or no, BUT all the hoopla with the politics getting mixed up with the health industry does nothing to make me want to trust anything from gov't re: this subject!!

Incidentally, we both home tested for covid, & both tested positive. Looking back I just wonder if the test results were valid; the only thing is that the color matched the instructions that said "COVID". Got to thinking that probably same people that made the test made the vax & subsequent meds for "C", so I could have the flu but they called the result "C"!

Needless to say, I am very skeptical of any info concerning "C" any more!!!:Devilish:Mad

I am saying it is not as effective as it is billed and there are no real studies to suggest there is. Why are people dying from covid in large amounts if it is as effective as the propaganda says it is at reducing the covid. At first it was billed as shutting down covid and keeping you from getting it at all, not its being propagandized as helping to not be as severe. Its all bunk.

Rev you are entitled to your opinion but if I or others want to avail ourselves of the shots that is our choice. Since I and my wife are in that older age bracket we looked at the evidence and talked to our Dr and made what we considered sound choices. Why do people die of covid after the covid shot well could it be for the same reason people die from the flu after the flu shots. The shots reduce the incidence and severity of the disease but people still do die from both.

I'm not sure why it's even a topic anymore.

COVID variants and the vaccine proved less deadly than many anticipated.

Now we are talking about vaccines and covid as if it were 2020.

Seems some are stuck in the past.

Sorry to hear you had to go through all of that, but glad to hear you are recovering.

I know of others who had similar experiences, and of some who took no chances, even though tri-vaxxed. The latter insisted their doctor help them with treatments to fight the infection early on, and that seemed to work in their case.
