Anyone live there… the wife & I are retired and looking for states that have better community, more affordable, less taxes etc. The state of Tennessee has my attention. So any information would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

I was looking about 50 miles from Memphis. Prices are good, taxes are low and your in farm country… my wife is a farm girl. there you can raise chickens which she likes maybe even get a small horse for the grandchildren I don’t know. I don’t know I haven’t really spent enough time looking around but I know things gotta be better than New Jersey.

LOL… yeah, the distance to a cancer center is important to us because my wife requires cancer treatments. New Jersey is a nightmare. City dwellers are pouring in here. The kid behind me is on drugs and he screams out obscenities at the top of his lungs… I’ve had to install cameras and should load the shotgun. Then taxes are extremely high. Our woke Governor is quoted as saying that if you don’t like the taxes then move out! yea OK.

It was nice. Expensive. I like Nashville. But not a lot to do other than Nashville.

I’m being honest here, I’m looking for lower costs, a sense of community, a good church ( preferably Primitive Baptist ( streamlined, simple, Christian) a system more friendly to lowering taxes and helping people etc. Hickory Valley Tenn. appears to fit that demographics.

From what my friend who lives in Nashville says, "There's a lot of old plantation money in Nashville."
I know a few really conservative people who are moving to Tennessee because they want to hide from the world. It's not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Wouldn't hide from the world in Nashville.

It isn't plantation money but music, tech, automotive industry and sports money.

Nashville is one of the largest growing metro areas in the nation (current population a little over 2 million).

There is a lot of entertainment. You have minor league baseball, NFL, NHL, a great outdoor music venue downtown (my favorite venue), several concert venues, and a bunch of restaurants and parks. If you want it, and it's not a beach, you can find it in Nashville.

You also have a lot of traffic and homelessness. You have gangs. Crime is bad. And it's expensive. It is also not conservative (perhaps not overly liberal, but not conservative). The outlying areas are conservative.

Median income is a little over $65k. Median home price is $465k.

The only thing I miss is concerts (last one I saw there was Roger Waters).

Also, Nashville is pretty with a beautiful skyline.

OK, I’m not looking at Nashville. I’ve worked in NYC for many years in the construction trades and not looking to retire in any cities. Chattanooga is nice if you ever visited, smaller, no garbage in the streets… I walked around the river and in the city and didn’t see any robbery and hear any sirens so it seems safe. But I don’t know Tennessee all that much other than what I’ve seen on the internet, and what I’ve seen appears attractive so I want to explore more. But you said the medium income in Nashville is $65.K…. How can you afford a house for $465K? That wouldn’t be enough to buy a crappy townhome without land by a train tracks! You would then have to pay 15K + in taxes. That 465 would be a basic home…. Think 650 and up.
