Biden was elected at age 77. I, along with several on this board, expressed concern due to his age.

I believe that during the past few years this concern has proved correct.

Now we are looking at the possibility of a Trump vs Biden election.

If Trump is elected he will be 78 years old when elected. He would be older than Biden is now by the end of his term (he would be 82 years old).

If Biden is elected he will be 82 years old when his second term begins. He will be 86 at the conclusion of that term.

Think about it. Either way we would have a geriatric President well into their 80's before their term ended. Normal mental decline begins at age 70 (for some of us, sooner).

Should there be an age limit (higher end) to run for POTUS?

Dad passed on June 27 this year at age 98 and his mind was sharp as a tack.

Some are. My grandmother lives to 104. Her mind was sharp until 102. It was interesting listening to her stories.

No, let the voters decide if DT has the same, better, or worse mental ability as B:den.

With age we should be talking about two issues

    1) cognitive mental health

    2) physical health

with age we all deteriorate, some faster than others, so at 80 plus we can speculate on both with a best guess at mortality.

I disagree (not because of Trump).

Having a mental ability better than Biden isn't saying very much, IMHO.

Part of the issue is age and the aging process. But part of it is a generation gap between the candidate and the working class.

DT, the billionaire, has a better understanding of the needs of the working class than B:den ever has.

I don’t agree with the idea that “only someone like me can represent me”

Only “my generation” understands……. Just doesn’t make sense.

We need folks with life experience outside of Washington.

Personally, I think we should increase the minimum age to serve… House (40 years), Senate (50 years) all federal judges (50 years) SCOTUS (60 years) POTUS and VP 60 years)

    peace to you

I don't believe only somebody like me can represent me either.

But I do believe Trump is a bit out of touch.

Trump did not invent a platform. He changed from Democrat to Republican and ran on that platform. I am not sure why so many seem to think he owned that platform.

The difference was Trump actually got things done rather than play politics. Not knowing things but him a few times, but he got things done.

Now, you can tell me that a 77 year old billionaire understands the average American. I accept you believe that. I don't.

It was the Republican platform coupled with Trump's drive that I voted for.

Regardless of his age, the fact that a man who has been obviously corrupt for decades and who has cottage cheese for brains can not only win an election but be a viable candidate for reelection demonstrates the problem with democracies.

    I like the idea, Jon.

There is a slight issue with it, though. Any law passed would have to be able to withstand an age discrimination lawsuit in court. To get around the age discrimination opposition, we would have to clearly connect the biological realities of human aging to national security issues. Otherwise, there's no hope of ever seeing such a limitation. Politicians don't like to be limited because it is the nature of government to seek and hold onto power.

Assuming that our election system hasn't been tampered with (and I certainly have questions), we could just leave it up to the voters to decide at the voting booth. Kennedy isn't a spring chicken either, but 70 is better than 80. The Libertarians will also be nominating their candidate in the spring.

Even if our elections have been corrupted, we should still vote for Kennedy anyway because some voice is better than no voice. ;)

That’s a wasted vote….why even expand the energy. You may just want to vote for Trump and get it over with.

I don't want to vote for Trump or Biden. I don't like either of them. And the age issue is one more reason not to. I like the idea of limiting the age. If we did that maybe the two party system would actually function for the people. But I think the two party system has also reached its age limit.

    Take a wild guess.

"Cottage cheese for brains" is the only hint you should need.

I saw that interview live. Trump didn't say anything similar to "drink Clorox". But, I'd be willing to be bet you already knew that though when you said that little gem of intellectually honesty, didn't you?

Where did I get the idea that you don't vote? Do you vote?

    I don't vote....but when I do...:Biggrin

I did vote for Trump. But I no longer vote. The reason has nothing to do with Trump but personal convictions I wrestled with long before the past several elections.

I voted even though I was convicted not to participate in politics (it was wrong of me, a sin, because I was acting against my convictions).
