A friend of mine who doesn't attend church told me the other day I'm a pretty decent fellow and am always kind to my fellow man. Parents always taught me to go by the good book and treat each other as I would like to be treated... You know the golden rule. Always followed the ten commandments and never broke any of the major sins. I talked to him a little while about Jesus and what he accomplished on the cross for him and he was getting uncomfortable and said he had to leave. He told me as he was leaving... Well you know its all in Gods hands and I'm not worried about it!... Got in his car and as he was driving off... Rolled down his window and said... The only thing I'm guilty of is the little sins!... Before I could answer him he drove off... What do you think he meant by little sins?... Brother Glen

Probably means he hasn't killed anyone, robbed a bank, etc. he probably considers little sins to be things like a little white lie, maybe cuss just a little, maybe cheat on income taxes just a little, maybe just a little illicit sex, etc., etc,. etc.

Ask the Catholics, I think they call it "venial sins".
The kind that doesn't take you to hell, but, is purified in purgatory after which you may enter heaven. :D

Glen, I don't think your friend understands what sin is. I get the feeling from people like that that their concept of 'little' sins is

    1. Things I do that are wrong but that I have a good excuse for, or

    2. Things that I do that are probably wrong but they don't hurt anyone else.

In other words, their idea of sin centers on themselves, not on God. They are not thinking of it in terms of offending and insulting the God of the universe, their Creator, but, rather, they are thinking of it in terms of damage they might be doing to themselves or others by their actions.

I thought a sin was a sin was a sin? (Besides the unpardonable one.)

    Warm Christian greetings!

I was brought up as an RC and we were taught that there were two types of sins; "venial" already mentioned and "mortal" (such as murder).

However, James 2 v 10 teaches that there is no such thing as a little sin.

    Kind regards

One half of one small sin is enough to send a person to a devil's hell for all eternity! Isn't it something--now, that person can go to a devil's hell and have to pay for that 1/2 of a sin for all eternity--or he can repent of it and recieve Jesus as Savior and Lord and receive by faith the fact that Jesus died for that 1/2 of that one small sin!

It meant: "I NEED TO BE SAVED! DON'T GIVE UP ON ME!"

I think you should take it very seriously. Follow God's prompting, and rely on Him; He'll bring in great things for those who have the faith to wait for them.

~Praying for you and your friend.

Sins vary in consequence in our "flesh".

As for our condemnation to hell, we are sinners by nature and choice. It does not matter whether we commit 1 or 1,000,000 or whether they are mortal or venial.

A just and righteous God must condemn the sinner. UNLESS (and oh, I love that "unless") the penalty and judgment of sin has been paid! Then God CANNOT condemn the sinner.

    Instead he is declared righteous!

    Thank you Jesus!

I think maybe there is one sin that is OK. Maybe you will agree.

    Here are my definitions:

BIG SIN: Something you do that's wrong.
LITTLE SIN: Something I do that's wrong.

    chuckle, chuckle, chuckle.

Many people, myself included, minimize their sins by thinking they're not as bad as what someone else did.

Bottom line: God hates sin  , all sin, big or little. I don't think whether or not God hates one sin more or less than another should even come into the equation.

Except for the sin of concuming chocolate, of course! :D

Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

    Matthew 23:14 KJV
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

What about Rahabs lie when she was hiding God's people? Joshua 2:4-5

Her actions including a lie where called faithful in Heb 11:31

A lie told to prevent an atrocity is not a sin. Ask Corrie Ten Boom. It's also common sense.

Sin is sin and lying is always sin. Rahab's lie was sin. Her faith was demonstrated in her hiding the men, not in using her own wisdom to protect them. Is God sovereign over circumstance or not? Common sense lies caused a major problem for both Abraham and Isaac, just to name a few.

Let us not glorify Corrie ten Boom.

    Hello,
I think he meant the sins that are not like murder, robbing a bank, it could be just a little lie about keeping to appointments or committment issue... I saw this short skit a week ago and it ministered to me about this topic https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=beNXo3KsRJw

    God bless you. Amen!
