Exellent Knives and Blades. These are some of the best you can own for all around use IMHO. The Scandi grind on these blades means anyone can keep a razors edge on them easily without extra gadgets, and I do mean razors edge! I like the laminated carbon steel myself but the stainless can be kept just as sharp and they can be stored for long periods (in a kit) with little worry of rust.

With the understanding that some may not have the time or patience for my rhectoric/commentary: The PREPARATIONS FOR NUCLEAR SURVIVAL is contained in the url address following the quoted exert from WND.

It grips my goat that every now and then our fears are raised by internal and external authorities over wmd, pandemic disease, and home grown terrorist. Our borders aren't closed; Home land security is succeeding in doing everything it can to secure the continuance of government, surveilance of our citizens, removal of personal protection such as our guns and ammo, preparation of laws and executive orders designed to impair our own freedoms and self reliance to protect ourselves against whatever disasters and impairment of order that such disasters may cause to the order of our communities and country. It is like 'they' are depending on our reliance upon 'their' preparations...... while it is impossible.... just like with Katrina..... for 'them' to provide for our survival.

FEMA and government officials, beginning with the local and state of NOLA, DID let the people down in Katrina disaster: The hurricane preparations encouraged here on the coast, would have done little to protect those people from the floods, and the anarchy which prevailed during and after the hurricane: The officials were well aware of weaknesses in the levees, the pumps, the demographics which reduced the likelihood that many could evacuate without assistance and provision of publically provided transportation, and the failure to plan for such and annouce the need in time for civilian action. We've seen an increase in para-military type of police interventions which have exceeded the presumed threat; yet the government officials of La, could not call in their own forces or the national guard to protect its citizens or secure property!

What does all this mean? It means.... that while we maintain a loyallty to our government and system of order, we MUST become MORE RESPONSIBLE for learning what we can and preparing our selves and our communities for the advent of disasters and our own preservation: THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT TELLING US HOW TO PREPARE. The department of homeland security is positioning itself as to how it may confiscate personal property to provide for the 'national good' and dispose of our constitutional rights..... and is providing for the secuity of its own continuance BUT is not helping us to understand how we can preserve our survival AND our rights through self preparation.

The National Planning Scenario No. 1, an originally confidential internal 2004 study by the Department of Homeland Security, demonstrated the above survival odds when they examined the effects of a terrorist nuke going off in Washington, D.C. They discovered that a 10 kiloton nuke, about two-thirds the size of the Hiroshima bomb, detonated at ground level, would result in about 15,000 immediate deaths and another 15,000 casualties from the initial blast, thermal flash and radiation release. As horrific as that is, the surprising revelation here is that over 99 percent of the residents in the D.C. area will have just witnessed and survived their first nuclear explosion. Clearly, the good news is most people will survive the initial blast.

The study also determined that another 250,000 people would soon be at risk from lethal doses of radiation from the fallout drifting downwind toward them after the blast. These much larger casualty numbers are avoidable, and that's more good news, but only for those pre-trained by a Civil Defense program in what to do before it arrives.

Above all, be alert to the appeal of fear and threats, and fight it through knowledge, preparation, communication and faith.

I remember watching a show years ago where they did this. Put burgers on the engine, wired them to stay and then drove for a while (they were showing how you can cook while you travel). I thought it was quite funny.

Better yet, just use a small fire and a roasting rack. Easy peasy!!

It's only beneficial when you have to travel anyway. Otherwise, save that expensive gasoline by utilizing other methods for cooking/heating food. There are many that don't involve using an electric applicance in the kitchen.

Every fuel source has multiple ways it can be used, whether propane, solar, wood, camp fuel, sterno, charcoal, cowchips, alcohol, straw, corncobs, kerosene, cattails, wax, or bear grease.

Lessons learned from hurricanes and ice storms has led to the goal of having as many different ways to cook as possible. Example: Using reflector ovens to bake biscuits beside a wood fire. A hole in the ground becomes a Dakota stove. A castoff propane grill can become a solar cooker. A soda can converts to an alcohol stove.

• a couple of ears of corn
• some meat balls (hamburgers)

in aluminum foil and nestle them on the exhaust manifold.

I had a doctor I worked for once tell me when they drove from Nashville to their Gulf Shores condo every Thanksgiving, they put their turkey in the engine of the car (Lincoln) and by the time they got there, their turkey was ready for dinner.

I think he might have been pulling my leg. :laugh:
