The Little (Pagan) Drummer Boy

The little drummer boy is performing for the infant Jesus.

God graciously receives our best worship, when we worship in spirit and truth.

I don't really care for the song, but your criticism seems to be misplaced.

 

In his column of 12/2/02, Dave Barry wrote "I'll tell you this: If I were taking care of a newborn baby, and somebody came around whacking on a drum, that person would find himself at the emergency room having his drumsticks surgically removed from his rum-pa-pa-pum, if you know what I mean."

 

Certainly I know what you mean . . .

Sounds like he might be jealous of the fact that a 'pagan drummer boy' knew enough to play: "Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum"

Here are some of the words to that song:

"Baby Jesu, I am a poor boy, too
I have no gift to bring that's fit to give a King.
Shall I play for you on my drum?"

I totally identify with that. Except I am a girl....

I have no gift to bring that's fit to give our King. But I will give what I have and what I can.

And that is what the song is about.

Please note, that as funny as Dave Barry's comment was, the little boy did not play until Mary gave permission.

Also, since 'the ox and lamb kept time'...we know it is all pretend and that the message is simply to bring what you have and what you are to Christ.

It's a lovely song.

Wow, someone who understands the song....

It always reminds me of, "Silver and Gold have I none but such as I have I give unto you"...

 

Its about a little boy who wants to give the best he has, and thats on his drum. I think its sweet, but I dont like the song.

 

What do the contemporary churches call the group of people with mikes who stand on the platform and sway--praise leaders, praise team, something like that?

Perhaps this is where that practice began.

 

I don't have a problem at all with "The Little Drummer Boy." The Chrsitmas song I don't like is "The 12 Days of Christmas." I don't want three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partidge in a pear tree.

 

I think I might accept 11 ladies dancing.
