... as it was centuries earlier by James, the brother of our Lord Jesus,

James 2:14. What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
    15. If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
    16. and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
    17. Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
    18. But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
    19. You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
    20. But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
    21. Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
    22. You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;
    23. and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.
    24. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
    25. In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
    26. For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. (NASB, 1995)

I would argue that none of the above that believe what those false religions teach about salvation and God are saved. Neither can they be. They all have "another Gospel". Gal. 5:4,9.

If they are saved they are saved in spite of their religion. Not because of it.

And we may have varying opinions on secondary subjects from the Scriptures, but not on our soteriology.

As I said before in this thread, I also would attend a Catholic funeral if it was a close family member, like when my mother died last year.

And as C4K said, you better believe that I also would love to see Catholics attend our church every week. Jesus came to save the lost.

Lets keep in my that there are MANY members of the RCC who are saved, there are Mormons who are saved, their are JWs that are saved, etc. Just because they gave some (or even a lot) of their doctrine wrong doesnt mean they are not saved.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets seperate Catholics from Mormons and JWs. Catholics believe in the same God of the Trinity that all of us do. They have incorect doctrin and practice but it is the same God.

Mormons and JWs believe in a created Jesus and Mormons believe in a created god. Mormons believe in a god that has a flesh body and he progresses. Their god is not all powerfull all present all knowing. If you follow there theology their god was a sinner who was saved.

I think Mormons and JWs are in there own catagory. I would still attend a funeral, wedding even in a LDS church and have often.

So you don't even let a Catholic into your home? </font>[/QUOTE]WOW, and my landlord is Catholic!!!lol

She has a better understanding of Christ's love than these self-righteous, baptist only, Christians that are on this board and in this world.. We have actually had this conversation about how unloving and self righteous Baptists are around here locally.

Anyway, I have never been to any RC service.
My wife has when she was a teen. Her aunt was married in a Caholic church and my wife reports that the old priest actually fell asleep during Mass!! That had to be funny.

I've came close to falling asleep during one of my sermons!

Just because Diggin takes a biblical stand against going into a catholic church does not make him self righteous, nor does it make him unloving. If the Holy Spirit has revealed to his heart that he is not to be there through the reading of God's Word, he had better listen to the Holy Spirit. I commend anyone that takes such a stand against participating in any of the services of the false church.

We need more of God's people to take a stand such as Diggin has taken.

Could be a third thing that is hated by God even more. Those who are false accusers of those who are convicted by the Holy Spirit not to fellowship in the false church.

The mass for the Roman Catholic IS the service. That is how they believe they receive Jesus.Through the bread and the wine that is offered. While Baptists receive Christ by faith and his indwelling presence by his spirit. Quite a BIG difference.

Ya ever hear the joke about the golfer who was on the greens when a funeral procession passed by. He took off his hat and bowed his head in reverence as the hearse passed.

His friend was touched by his religious gesture and said, 'That was a kind thought, to have reverence for the dead enough to stop your game for a few minutes'.

The golfer said, 'It was the least I could do, I was married to her for 27 years.'

If it were a member of my family and a catholic funeral, I wouldn't be on a golf course... but I wouldn't be in that procession either.

I have seen no evidence of the Holy Spirit in your posts. Why would I believe you are convicted by Him?

Let me ask all y'all a question. What if it were not a catholic church? What if it were a church that practiced bloodletting and denounced God? If it were a family member of yours who insisted before death that he or she did not want a christian funeral and wanted their funeral to be held at their blasphemous church? Would you go?

Jesus said, He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

My Lord tells me to forsake the worldly churches, and yes, even family if necessary, and follow Him.

Matthew 8:21-22 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

If they want to live amongst the dead, the dead can bury them.

Going to a loved one's funeral is honoring that person. It takes a very callous Christian to refuse to go to a loved ones funeral...Well I Guess if you refuse to go, they weren't very loved by you...so technically, they are not your loved ones.

Even Christ went to a a Jewish temple once a week. He even attended partys, hung out with drunks, and prostitues. So going to a funeral to pay your respects even in a church that you "seperate" from (whatever that means) isn't out of line. No wonder the lost laughs at some Christians.

again, Jesus said let the dead bury the dead. I will not disobey my Lord and Savior to please man

Show me a scripture where Christ went to a funeral. He certainly did not go to Lazarus' funeral. He went to the graveside to resurrect Lazarus.

There is much about Jesus' life that is not written down. A whole lot. Especially his childhood. I believe Jesus went to funerals and paid his respects as a family member of both Mary and Joseph.

I have to say that even after all my time on the BB that I am stunned at some of the responses here.

Being with a loved one in a time of grief is compromise? Sitting in a building is participating in a false religion? Showing respect to those whose loved ones are trapped in a false religion is loving them more than loving Christ?

No one yet has provided a Bible reason why I should not continue in my practice. Several attempts have been made to distort scripture to fit an opinion, but no one has shown me a BIBLE reason.

Argument from silence maybe? The Bible doesn't say I should so I shouldn't? The Bible doesn't say I should use the internet to discuss issues with peeople I don't even know. Does that mean I shouldn't do it.

One here has even implied that those who go to a Catholic funeral with to for a loved one loves that person more than Christ. How can that harsh judgement be substantiated?

When Jesus forbad the one that asked Him leave to go to his own father's funeral, why did Jesus not say, Go ahead? Why did He use the words 'let the dead bury their dead. Follow me?'

Okay, we can follow that line then.

So SFIC, you would not attend any funeral? If your answer is yes, I can appreciate you stand.

I realise by asking this I am drifting off topic, since we are taling about Catholic masses, but think it is important to the discussion.

    Are all funerals wrong?

Going to a Catholic funeral has never conflicted with my serving the Lord. If it were at the 1100 mass on Sunday morning I would not go. Of course, the rest of the family and the priest are usually more considerate than that and would not have the funeral at a time when the Christian member of the family would be in church.

Going to a Catholic funeral has much more often given opportunity to serve the Lord.
