What are your favorite.....

    I just attended my favorite uncle's funeral and unknown to even some of the immediate family was his distinguished military service in WWII, he was awarded not one but two war medals for courage - The Silver Star and the Bronze Star . Last night we sat around talking and the discussion turned to WAR MOVIES and I know, I know this is the Baptist Board forum, but it is slow and I was wondering what do the "Baptist Boarders" think the best WAR Movies of all time are (doesn't just have to be WWII)? Just shoot'n the breeze, its kind of slow, mine are:

    1.) Band of Brothers - is there REALLY anything better?
    2.) Saving Private Ryan - though fictional, very intense and moving
    3.) Bridge on the River Kwai - based on fact and great acting
    4.) Platoon - fictional but brings 'Nam to life
    5.) Patton - kind of chessy by todays standards, but very good in its time and factual, gives us a taste of this American war hero
    6.) Great Escape - What a cast and story and that ending - classic!!
    7.) All is Quiet on the Western Front - a movie classic even as old as it is
    8.) The Longest Day - the quintessential movie on D-Day
    9.) TORA! TORA! TORA! - different perspective, factual, good effects
    10) Battle of the Bulge - pretty accurate and good action,
    11) The Tuskeegee Airman - though low budget movie, based on fact and those guys were true Americans, though treated as second class men

    Some might say Apocalypse Now, but I think it is too existential and preachy, but there are some CLASSIC Lines "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning, smells like victory"

    Anyway, what do you all think....Best War Movies...

    I liked Apocolips Now better after I read the book it was based on, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad published in 1899.

    Full Metal Jacket

    Best most realistic depiction of boot camp. Second half of movie not so good.

    Also the old Guadacanal Diary, remember William Bendix - the Life of Riley he was in it

    I have a family member who was in Vietnam and went through boot camp before going and he says that Full Metal Jacket is the more realistic to the experience as well. But even watching that does not give one the complete experience.

    Der Untergang (Hitler's last days from the perspective of his secretary/the fall of Berlin to the Russians).

    Bullet in the head (the Vietnam war from the perspective of 3 youth gang members from Hong Kong, each new faction they run into is more evil than the last one, as an aside it shows that vietnam was a former French colony something that Hollywood usually forgets)

    Un long dimanche de fiançailles (woman tries to find her boyfriend who supposedly died during WWI)
