Favorite characters in the Bible

I know it's normal, but Paul and David.

Paul - He was the chief of all sinners and God still used him to do great things.

David - His life is one that can be learned from both great and bad.

I would say another fav. would be Doubting Thomas because he was another man that had a very human quality about him. I enojoy seeing men that I can relate to on a daily basis still try their best to serve God. I beleive all these men did this at major points in their lives.

 

Job--standing in the midst of a storm

Jeremiah--I realized I was not the first to make excuses when faced with the calling of God

 

Peter... Now there's a man I can identify with... always getting my foot in my mouth..

 

Joseph - From sin: Turn and RUN the other way!!
and - The innocent sometimes get punished, but God ALWAYS uses it for good in some way

 

Hannah--a comforting story for those unable to have children

 

Job, God knows the reason why, even if I don't, and I don't have to to continue to obey, have faith in Him, no matter what.

Paul, boldly speak the truth, stand for God's word, even when theres a cost.

Abraham and Jacob, we may mess up, sometimes royally, but we are still usable by God.

Lot, David, "her that had been the wife of Uriah", Aquilla and Priscilla, with Apollos, and Boaz.

Lot- Maybe I don't have the best perspective on who is godly, and who is not. And single-handedly, he manages to destroy about every theological system going.

David- Maybe God sees them a bit different than I do.

"her that had been the wife of Uriah"- God can even use no-name types to do great things, for this purposes.

Aquilla and Priscilla with Apollos- You can learn something from anyone. Dr. Apollos learned more from two ordinary laborers than he did from Dr. Saul Paul.

Boaz- "Hey!! Look what I found!

 

her that had been the wife of Uriah was not a no-name as you surmise. Her name was Bathsheba.

2 Samuel 11:3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

2 Samuel 11:26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

IMO David is the "perfect example of a Christian". It may seem funny that an Old Testament character is a prime example for our Christian life. but let's look at his life...he failed, succeeded, followed God's leading, sometimes got in the way of GOd's leading, and still all the while was considered a "Man After God's Own Heart". This is my hope and prayer that I'll be considered a man after God's heart inspite of all my struggles and victories.

I know the Apostles are examples of leading a New Testament Christian Life but for me I seem to relate better with David...because I want to follow God and strive to follow GOd, but sometimes I find I've gotten in the way and ruined everything but God is so longsuffering and he still forgives me and uses me!!

 

Besides Jesus, Peter and David, for finding their way back to God after sin in their life.

Paul, for his miraculous Transformation.

Job, for his trials by fire.

Moses, for leadership and being humble.

Mary--I always wonder what kind of an incredible young woman she must have been to have been hand-picked by God to be the mother of the Messiah!
Ruth--she seemed to have the perfect balance of being strong, tough and feminine.
