Saturday or Sunday?

Everyday is a day of worship for us in Christ? There is not one day more special than another. Christ is our Sabbath and we are to rest in Him all the time. Aint God great!!!!!

Amen. God made the sabboth for man, not man for the sabboth.We are to pray without ceasing.We can worship anytime and anywhere.

Jesus met specifically with His disciples on the first day of the week which by our Gregorian calendar is Sunday.

 

I don't think it technically matters. As long as you observe the Sabbath one day out of a week, and keep it holy, it shouldn't matter whether it's Saturday, Sunday, or Tuesday. One day should be for rest and worship. Sunday's not a "day off" for me, so I rest on another day as I can.

Observe the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.

 

The issue of Saturday worship as opposed to Sunday worship has been debated in many churches over time.

Traditionally many churches have advocated that Christians ought to be keeping the Ten Commandments, and that the Ten Commandments are still for the Christian Church.

As a result groups that teach this have been challenged by the Seventh Day Adventist Church to really do that then, and keep the fourth commandment, the Sabbath on Saturday, and there are certainley examples of the church in Acts meeting on the Sabbath. As there are examples of the church breaking bread together daily.

It is popular theology to teach that the Sabbath is fufilled in Christ, and that it is as a result not neccessary for people to rest one day in seven any more. Hence if a person wishes to work seven days per week, then that is considered quite o.k, and within the teaching of Scripture.

I have met people that do work seven day weeks, and it has been my experience that they tend to look older than they really are, and it is my view that working continuously without rest shortens your lifespan. It is also my thought that God commanded the resting on the Seventh day in Genesis 2:3 as a part of his creation of the world. Yet many Christians likewise believe that this creation account of seven literal days did not occur, and as a result it is all figurative.

My thoughts are that the sabbath will certainley be fufilled in Christ when He returns, yet the instructions contained in Genesis 2:3, that all of God's creation are to rest one day in seven as a memorial of what He created stands.

What many people are not aware of, is that although the Adventist church may teach alot on the Sabbath, they got their teachings on the idea from a Baptist Denomination that had begun some 150 years earlier than the original Millerite Advent Christian church who incedently used to also meet on a Sunday!

Baptists should have Saturday as their Feast of the Pot Luck and sacrifice to the giant belly day, and use Sunday as a day of worship.

Where do you get the idea that Gen 2:3 contains an instruction?

It contains a record that God finished His creative work and stopped working on the 7th. Was God tired after all that? Any indication that this is to be observed by anyone else as a day of rest?

NOPE. Not till Exodus.

Sabbath was specifically between God and Israel, period, dot, dot, dot...

THE WORD DOES NOT EVEN APPEAR TILL EXODUS 16:23...

And in Exodus 31 we read...

No Gentiles or Church included in this one...

Oh, forgot to mention (did on another thread somewhere) that the Jews did not WORSHIP on the sabbath, they rested. The sabbath was not established as a covenant day of worship, but a covenant day of rest.

The Lord's Day is something totally new. There is no indication in the NT that Sabbath principles were applied in any way to the Lord's day by the early church. Not all that surprising since there are not that many references to the Lord's Day/first day anyway.

A very good point. The Jews had daily morning and evening sacrifices and worship.
Worship and rejoicing was to be a big part of their tithe and offering sacrifices. Deut. 13, 14, & 16.

 

Well...good grief. Why am I getting ready for a WEDNESDAY worship service then???

You people gotta tell me these things...

 

Why not both Saturday and Sunday? I regularly attend a local Church that has a contemporary service with excellent music on Saturday evening, and my Church home on Sunday.
