    Shiloh,
What gives you the right to proclaim long hair a worldly thing? your goodness?

And some pastors need to learn how be considerate and show love rather than tear down and cause division.

"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;" (1Tm 3:2-3 NKJV)

Where do the Scriptures say that long hair is worldly?

When one focuses on outward reformations, instead of actual Holy Spirit enabled heart changes, they will make comments like you do continually.

It is terrible that some people only think of what is on the outside... just like the pharisees.

Everyone knows what's outside does not matter. That's why the most successful people always look like they have been dragged through a bush backwards.

That's why when people go for top paying jobs they just roll outta bed and go to the interview in their pj's. They don't wash, dress smart or sort their hair out because they know their future employer won't look on the outside. It doesn't matter if he/she is unshaven and stinking. He just wants to know whats on the inside...

We all know that does not happen in the real world. Sadly only God can see the heart, that is why we must pay so much attention to what people see with their physical eye sight.

It seems some people only ever want to throw off what ever they can and see how close to the line they can walk. Any mention of a pastor exhorting someone gets comments of dictators and men trying to be the Holy Spirit. When they read "Long" they don't think, "I want to obey." They seem to think, "Hm, how long is long? How close to the mark can I be?"

How long is long? In inches or metric? It does not specifically say. But for many years men just kept their hair short and got on with life.

I blame CCM myself... [IMG] Just kidding about the CCM, just kidding... honest!

I truly find Shiloh's condescending tone and cynicism to be very rude. Try to stop with the "Duh's" and such and make your point with facts.

Stop arguing about the length of a person's hair. You should be worried about their eternal destination.

Of course---sometimes in the workforce---long hair can be a serious "NO NO!"

My Father-in-Law works at a fossel fuel generating plant---lots and lots of moving parts and machinery that goes round and round and up and down --- there's nothing like the feeling of hair getting caught in a drill motor and being yanked away from the scalp!!

You work for him---and you've got long hair---he's gonna tell you to cut it---and he's gonna "pencil in" the hair line---"Nothing below this pencil mark!"

I understand all too well that we shouldn't always be judging on the basis of someone's outside appearance, but face it, guys--it happens. If we are Christians, we're in a fish-bowl--unsaved folks are always watching us--like it or not--to see if we're different. Josh, you said we should be worrying more about people's eternal destination--but what are we doing to point them towards God? If we're not different, and God doesn't shine through us, then what is there in being a Christian that would attract them to the Gospel?
Wake up, everyone!!! People's lives are at stake. Why don't we all start doing what God wants us to do--show the world that there is something different about us, something that they don't have, something they need? Or are we all so comfortable with our lifestyles that we don't want to knuckle down and change for fear of getting our soft hands dirty? DON'T WE EVEN CARE ABOUT THE MILLIONS WHO ARE GOING TO HELL DAILY?

I graduated from an IFB college with a major in Bible, so I know the drill, OK.

Here is what the Scripture says about long hair, in context...

Please notice that the words are “it is a shame unto him” – AND NOT – “it is a sin unto him”. The same word is used in...

Please notice that there is no moral quality involved in the use of the word in these passages...

It is a shame, a dishonor, not a sin.

    Shiloh,

    Two points:

    1) Please notice the clear prohibition against being contentious just a few verses later (1Cor 11:16), and
    2) If long hair was a sin, according to nature, how could God have blessed the ministry of John the Baptist, a Nazarite forbidden to cut his hair?

Yes we must contend for the faith once delivered to the saints. But being contentious over long hair being a sin rather than just a shame is not God honoring and it is adding to what God has said.

I have long hair. Longer than Kenny G's as a matter of fact. I've been a youth minister & it's NEVER been a problem. You don't think the blood of Jesus is sufficient to overcome long curly hair? **Condemned** to hell for having long hair! LOL!! Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful;)

Moderator note----**Condemned** sounds like a nicer word to use than the original

I see, just shameful, not sinful. That makes it okay. The passage teaches that a ladies long hair is a glory and given from God. Conversely, a man with long hair is shameful. How can you say there is no moral quality in that? One is held up as worthy of glory, the other is shameful.

So to behave shamefully in the eyes of God is different than sinning in the eyes of God.

One passage you failed to quote for some reason was Romans 1:26 - "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:" Our word for shame here is translated as "vile". I don't care which way you spin it, I do not want to be shameful/vile/dishonourable in any way in the sight of God.

    1. Okay, then cut just have short hair and stop being contentious. If error is to be made, err on the side of Scripture.

    2. Good point. Though it seems the Nazarite vow was an exception, not a rule. Those with long hair, have you taken a Nazarite vow? If not, get a trim!

There is more to the vow which explains the hair but I'll have to check it out later.

3john2, your lovely locks must be over your eyes cause no one said you're **condemned** to hell for having long hair. Maybe just a little trim might be in order...

    Moderator added **condemned**

I feel sorry for all the women with cancer who have loss all their hair. they are no longer Godly because of it.

Did you know that it is the Jewish tradition even now with the strick Jews (i know the name just not how to spell it), for the women to CUT OFF ALL their hair and wear wigs instead. I know I worked in a Jewish hotel in my early 20's.

</font>[/QUOTE]The Bible teaches that the glory of the woman is her hair---thats a truth that will live throughout all eternity.

The Bible also teaches that the glory of the young man is his strength!!

Now---let me attempt to make application of these two truths

When a woman is stricken with cancer---and she begins chemo treatments---many times her hair will fall out----(side note here--modern medicine has come along way---chemo treatments have improved to the point where many, many women can be treated without hair loss)

Anyway---suppose her hair does fall out---many times I have seen this happen---hair falls out--she is shameful and embarrassed--and runs out to purchase a number of wigs---to cover up the loss---but way down deep--there is still the hurt of losing her glory that is built in

The same way with men and their strength!! I've seen men contract cancer and begin chemo treatment that "saps" them of their physical strength---leading to their embarrassment the same as what happens when women lose their hair

In those instances---I would encourage the women---let Jesus be your glory!! To the men---I would encourage you---let Jesus be your strength!!

But no---to lose ones hair to chemo and to lose ones strength to chemo does not mean that they are no longer "godly"

    Amen??

I totally agree with you. that was for those who say women are NOT godly if they have short hair and men are NOT godly if they have long. just like those who say women are NOT godly if they wear pants and so on. I understand the shame part, that's why i said GODLY.

Frenchy, I think you missed the point. If anyone gets cancer and suffers then that is a tragedy and has nothing to do with their Godliness or ungodliness.

LOL I wouldn't hate you for it. :D If you like long hair, God bless ya. I prefer men to have short hair but I wouldn't condemn anyone for MY preference and on something so trivial. [IMG]
